I’m new to this forum but on my second FJR (I sold my 2004 Gen1 a few years ago).
My other bike is a 2009 Harley Electra Glide that I really like but is obviously night and day different from the FJR.
it sure is good for running errands and bringing home groceries and large pizza boxes.
My past motorcycles since 1966 include: 1959 650 BSA, 1970 Honda CB450, 1965 Harley Electra Glide, 1972 Honda CB500/4, 1973 Kawasaki 900, Honda 1981 CB750, 1983 Honda GL 1100, 1994 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500, Several Honda ST1100’s, Suzuki 650 V-Strom, Burgman 400, 2009 Harley Electra Glide
I purchased a beautiful 2015 FJR1300ES on July 5 of this year with about 27k miles.
The bike was stock except for a “quick shifter”, Shad top box adapter (no top box included), Canyon Cage’s front and rear.
I have so far added:
Dual horns
Givi adapter plate for my Kappa 49 top box.
Visible turn signal reminders (home made LED flashers)
Foam “over grips)
TPMS (elcheapo from china)
New halogen headlamp bulbs (5,000k white)
I have performed fluid changes on clutch, brakes, coolant, clean and lube clutch and brake pivots. (Will do valve check and center stand maintenance over the winter).
I removed the quick shifter as soon as I got the bike home (70 miles from Colorado Springs).
I’ll sell it real cheap if anybody wants it.
I’m currently trying to find a Russel or Sargent seat (used and cheap if possible). While I wait I bought cheap stock seats of eBay to experiment with (hack up and recover) to try to stop forward slide and possibly provide space to slide back a couple of inches. I don’t anticipate much success.
I’m a retired computer field service tech. My early experience was USMC helicopter AE and then many years with a few different companies fixing stuff (Friden, Singer Business Machines, TRW, First Image, Anacomp, and DecisionOne. I have lots of experience taking things apart and (usually) putting them back together.
My riding days are seriously age limited.
I’m 79 but health is pretty good so we’ll see how long I can keep riding.
Thanks for letting me join up.
