Just a Couple Days in the Woods....

Post by Hppants »

One more weak cold front ran across the deep south. One more little puff of north wind before the 5 month sauna sets in. I couldn't resist the opportunity to go play in the woods. I camped at Clearsprings in the Homochitto National Forest.

I posted my plans to ride on the Southern Mississippi Dual Sport Riders group, and was excited to get a message from David, asking to join me. He's a nice man and we had a great ride together on Saturday.

Never had a Reeses Ice Cram treat before - tasty!

Image

Saturday night, I met a father/daugther duo riding across the country (Dad - BMW GS, Daughter Kawasaki 650). They walked over and enjoyed the campfire with me, along with some nice conversation.

Sunday, I decided to just "wing it" and see if I could find some "new to me" roads.

I did find some wonderful 2-track stuff in a section of the forest that I hadn't previously explored. It was maybe 40 miles of these delightful wiggly roads that zigged and zagged basically no where.

Image

I also found a few goat trails that were fun and technically challenging, but I took those VERY slowly. When I'm riding the Bush Pig alone, my riding style changes significantly.

At the edge of the National Forest, I came upon this peaceful looking lake.

Image

I had lunch under the shade of the cockpit of a small bulldozer parked on the road. Not a bad view to eat my sandwich from.

Image

The "overlooks" in southern MS are not vastly, but one can see a little

Image

The ice cream choices in Gloster, MS are woefully inadequate, but when in Rome.....

Image

It was nothing earth shattering. There were no revelations, or profound discoveries. Just a retired man doing what he does.

Stay thirsty, my friends....

Retired men need to keep doing what they do or get busy dying. How was the Reese's ice cream? Keep on trucking Pants.

I think the view is really good. Heck you can see all the way to Mt. Rainier Washington. Amazing.

Maybe somebody has photo chop cause AI on a cell phone is hit an miss. The darn sky color doesn't match.

I'm not sure if the electronics or even optics have anything to do with it, but from purely a meteorological POV, I'm not surprised.

Yesterday was as "blue bird severe clear" kind of sky day as we ever get. But even so, it's more humid than the northwest.

Imagine a VERY large Resses Peanut Butter Cup with some fair-to-middlen vanilla ice cream in it. It wasn't too bad - I'd eat it again for sure.

Always room for one more. Especially a micro version. You will fit just fine.

I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!
