Guysville Ohio for a Long Weekend

Post by D-Eagle »

I was invited to a trip to Athens Ohio from my Canadian friend. We had 4 Canadians and myself from Michigan. I was the youngest at 58 and one guy that turned 70 in 3 days.

I like camping as much as the next guy. So we roughed it in Guysville Ohio.
Image

5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms. $1500 for 3 nights. Split among 5 people (I'll do the math for you...$300 each for the long weekend). Thursday we rode down, checked in, and then hit Kroger in Athens. Athens is the home to Ohio University. Kroger is evidently where the young students from Ohio University shop. There must be a clothing shortage in Ohio, as none of these poor girls had anything that fit. Some couldn't even afford shirts that covered their belly, and were wearing shorts from 6th grade. I was happy it was warm out so these poor darlings wouldn't freeze. Anyway, we got food to make breakfast for a couple of days and these....view from our balcony.
Image

We got up Friday morning, ate breakfast and headed out on the Triple Nickel. This is me letting my tires cool after I'm sure was a Triple Nickel speed record.
Image

We stopped at the Triple Nickel Diner. While we were there, this old lady came in and looked all around for someone then left. She came back in and walked up to our table. She asked if those bikes out there were ours. We said they were. She said we needed to take her and a chicken two miles down the road to give the chicken to her friend. Silence. She said, "listen, you're taking me and a chicken to my friend so I can give her a chicken. She's been shunned by the Amish and I want to do something nice for her." One of the guys pointed at me and said "he'll take you". So now she's looking at me. After finding out that chicken was cooked and not alive, I said if you give me the address, I'll deliver the chicken for you. I said I'm not taking you on my bike. She said why not? I said I'm not letting you ride on the back of my bike. She said "that's fine. I'll drive. You can ride on back." Everybody laughed but me. Finally one of the other guys said if I took the chicken, he'll take the old lady. She left to go home and get the chicken. The waitress came up and asked if we were doing her a favor and we told her the story. We asked if "she was all there". The waitress said no, she is not all there. She's not completely crazy, but she's not all there. Great. We're going to get to this house and get jumped and end up in a pond somewhere. Or bubba's pet. Not excited and I hope she gets "handsy" with the other guy on the way there. She finally comes back with the chicken and the two bikes take off for the house. The house was not nice. She gets off and I give her the chicken. She says she has to go around back to hang it somewhere where the raccoons won't get it, because the friend is not home right now. Great. So I go with her to find a place to hang it, or maybe I'm just going to my death. The friend suddenly answers the back door and looks at me like I'm from space in my helmet, jacket, gloves. I head back to the bike. We give her a ride back and then have a good laugh because we're all alive and the chicken has been delivered.

Saturday more riding, and more grilling. I know you guys like food pics.

While we we cooking this storm came up.
Image

It got really nasty. Probably one of the worst storms for wind I've been in. We lost power around 8 pm. First thing in an emergency, eat the ice cream sandwiches before they melt. Power came back on at 5 am and of course every light switch had been left on, so everybody woke up, which at least meant we cleaned the place up and were on the road home by 7:30 am. Surprisingly Easter traffic was busier than I expected. Good first trip of the year. My first vacation day used of the year. Was good to forget work and laugh and see some cool things. And deliver a chicken.

Probably the weirdest thing I've ever read in a ride report. And I've been here a while.

Don, awesome vacation with the guys. The weird thing just helps make it memorable. Glad the storm didn't hit you on the way home. The weird things that happen to me, I just don't think to tell the class about. Of course, those stories usually start with me passing a black duallie in nowheresville (pick a state).

I'm pretty sure the half naked teenagers in Kroger was a figment of his imagination. Everyone knows the hot chicks go to UofM.

But granny was definitly shopping for bubba's next play toy - good job dodging that one - I don't think you'd look good in leather chaps and straps.

Were the cruisers able to keep up with the Wing?

I agree with the Mayor, that is one strange chicken story.

That was a fine read. I liked the chicken story. Usually, you don't find the adventure - it finds you.

And they had the fortitude not to waste the ice cream sandwiches. Right on, man!
