Finally got around to installing the Stebel Nautilus horn that's been kicking around the garage since purchased pre owned some years ago from a guy on another forum. Made sure it still worked using a couple of wires touched on battery terminals...yep, after an initial croak it damn near deafened me.

Fabbed a bracket to fix it up under the lower triple tree as per what most others seem to have done, man there is just enough room up there but you the better be sure it's not going to crash down into the fender when the forks compress. DAMHIK!
Well it didn't actually crash but it woulda, so a modified position was called for.
That done, wired it into a relay under the seat previously used for the heated seat I had sold on, but woe is me, didn't get a peep out of it on first trial.

So, much wringing of hands and searching for faults later, turns out I had disconnected the live feed wire at the battery when the seat was sold, tucked it safely away somewhere up there out of sight and just left the other insulated end loose next to the relay! To add insult to injury, the wire is snagged up somewhere under the tank, probably caused by the in line fuse holder, so it can't be retrieved and re connected without lifting the tank.....not gonna happen at the mo, I'll just run another live feed and retrieve it at next TBS time.

Ran a wire to test the rest of the install...... jeezus that mother is loud!

Can't wait to surprise the first lane drifter next time out.

I appreciate the fact that sometimes you just NEED the extra decibels of the air horn but I continue to be happy with my dual PIAA sport horns. No relay required - plug and play. Loud enough to be heard but won't give the other guy heart failure. (Definitely a step up from stock.) The other issue I have with the air horns is the fact that ingesting dust or road spray when riding in the rain can eventually kill them. Hope your Stebel holds up. Did you leave the stock horn connected?

Many moons ago I put air horns on my car. Kept the original horn. Found this worthwhile.

A quick stab of the horn button just sounded the original horn, useful in streets where a pedestrian might be unaware of you and step into the road. Saves the full decibels giving little old ladies heart attacks. Also if the car in front hasn't noticed the lights have changed to green. Though if he doesn't react to the first pip, he gets the full blast on the second wake up call.

Agree totally. Likewise fitted air horns on my Cortina back in the eighties and on occasion got much wicked amusement giving them a blast when driving through a short rail tunnel on the way to work that often had teenage school girls walking through it at the same time.

Bet they said ‘what a jolly fellow he is’.

Could well be I suppose. Must be three or four years ago maybe.
Sometimes these things need some thought and shouldn’t be rushed.

Btw, do you still have the intake filter piece for it?

I disconnected the remaining stock horn to utilize the feeds. The left hand one I had replaced with a PIAA unit bought from my good buddy LKLD some years ago. This is still connected.

Good point re rain and crud being drawn in and wrecking the compressor, a point raised and suffered by others around.

I hope to replace the missing original air filter in some way to offset the likelihood of this happening.
