Any thoughts on bar ends/weights?

I've found that they helped to reduce handle bar vibration enough to reduce hand numbness.

They moved it enough in my 14 to make a difference. The rpms are a little lower on the 18 on he highway, so I don’t use them now.

Made a nice difference on my Gen 2.

I have some that have a locking mechanism on them that allow me to safely (somewhat) store my helmet. Basically, you put the D ring through it.

I like them. Pretty functional and heavy for sure. I will look up the brand. Can’t find it in the net right now.

I have the HVMP bar ends, they help with the vibrations, yes heavy.

I have the heavy HVMP bar end weights and think they help a little.

Interesting note: {to me}.

I ride with a group called the Patriot Guard, and we stand flag lines at Military funerals and then escort them to the cemetery and stand a flag line there.

I noticed, while riding at slow speeds in formation to the cemetery, that my right hand would get NUMB worse than when riding on the interstate. I THOUGHT that it was unusual that even at those low RPM's there would be a numbness problem.

The other day, while riding in one of these formations, I again noticed the numbness, and realized that because of the stress of keeping 2 seconds behind the person in front of me and worrying about the person behind me, and the damned LEO"s that would speed past me to get to the next light to direct traffic, that I was GRIPPING THE BARS TOO TIGHTLY. I relaxed the grip and the tingling went away. DUH!

The Death Grip on the throttle is something that became more of an issue with fuel injected motorcycles. The throttle response and throttle control became more abrupt and harsh than with a well sorted constant velocity carb. Aids like the Power Commander help the throttle feel because it causes the FI to become a little rich which causes the engine to slightly bog and that takes the edge off of the throttle response feel.

I've heard that golf shops have lead weight tapes which could be temporarily added the the bars to see if it quells the vibes. I've been lucky that my two FJRs haven't had much in the way of vibes but I do have the Death Grip syndrome. Having a cruise control and the road conditions where I can use the cruise takes the sting out of the right hand for me.

So far as bar end weights go, aluminum is NOT your friend, go heavy, go steel. To this point I have not seen depleted uranium bar end weights

A nice,well maybe nice, side effect of the larger heavier bar end weights is also that in the event of a low or no speed tip over they may help keep more fragile bodywork from making contact and the additional damage that can happen to those expensive body panels. DAMHIK.......

If your hands are big, it also helps to increase the diameter of the grips and relax... Grip Buddies or Grip Puppies will do that. Less grip effort required to turn the throttle.....

I bought a used pair right after the season ended. Hope it cuts down on the numbness. Not sure what brand they are they are stainless steal and are heavy!! Might hit them with some plastidip to blend in more. Can't wait to try them out!!

I did installed Grip Buddies and found it was more comfortable than helped reduce numbness. Since I installed them it takes about 20-30 minutes longer before the numbness kicks in.

No need to melt. Drill and tap the flat end. Run in some rod stock with 263 red loctite then thread the rod into the handlebar. Viola, > 1/2 pound cool looking bar ends that can take an oopsie or two in a parking lot.

Please dispose of the DU metal chips in a responsible way. Mail them to Bustanut.

Nah, don't do that! Yer hands would prolly fall off, in maybe a dozen years.

I don't have the problem with buzzing or numbness, but if I did, I believe the real fix can be bar end weights, foam grips, padded gloves, fuel injector cleaner, and/or a TBS. Last but not least, would be to convert to conventional handlebars. Those cast FJR handlebar units are just too rigid, and they transmit the vibes very strongly into your hands and wrists.

You can do that handlebar conversion the expensive way, with the German handlebar adapter plate, or for cheap with a pair of the two-bolt or three-bolt handlebar clamps which some other bikes use. Conventional handlebars will give you far more choices for hand positions than the tilt or riser blocks, also.

A genius we all know did the handlebar conversion......

Not to be the contrarian but...I used HVMP heavy ends on three previous FJRs with out any issues. Installed the same weights on my new [to me] '15 and they caused a terrible bar buzz/vibration. That smooth '15 I picked up on a fly-and-ride to Phoenix turned into a buzzy POS overnight. Hated it.

After spending many days un-doing what I had done and checking EVERYTHING else, I finally gave in, removed the heavy ends and reinstalled the OE ends. Instantly I had the smooth '15 back w/o the nasty bar buzz. To this day I still can't explain it.
