Cee Bailey Shields, Gen3

As some of you know, I am very clumsy. You may also know that while I love my '15 ES, I foolishly dropped it against a gas pump on my way to SFO. This destroyed my beloved Cee Bailey Sport Shield in the Dark Gray tint. That shield worked Very Well for me. It also looked fantastic and really helped with the Sinister Blacked Out look that goes so well with the '15ES.

I thought that a few pics of windshields might prove useful to someone, somewhere.

The original shield laid over the Cee Bailey Sport:

The Cee Bailey freshly installed on Scar. Sharp eyes may note the left mirror out of alignment due to asphalt/motorcycle intercourse.

The Sport Shield performed way beyond expectations. It even knocked most of the wind off my front paws, a Good Thing in wintertime.

It looked Fantastic:

It even looked good on the otherwise ugly '14 FJR:

It was true that I often found myself running it up when riding with Pop to keep things quiet in the Comm System. I noticed that Pop always had fewer bugs on his helmet visor and his Gen2 had the slightly taller Cee Bailey with a little more recurve. Still, I was Very Happy.

And then, on the way to SFO...

Stupidity is its own punishment. And it hurts.

Today a box arrived for me. A new 21 inch Cee Bailey in Dark Gray Tint.

It is noticeably taller from the saddle. I will evaluate it on the work commute tomorrow and try to get some decent daytime pics when I get it back home.

Great looking shield...I could never warm up to the dark tint CB on my previous '09. For the '15 it's a Sport Touring VStream that does the trick!

I once called my 15 "black" in text message to RedFish and he nearly blew a gasket. He quickly corrected me "It's Liquid Graphite Josh". I think he might have even used my full name. I thought my dad had risen from the grave and I was about to get an ass whooping.

You call it stone gray----and don't retract it quickly----- I am not responsible for what he will do. It's like we insulted his family name or something.

Fred W used to call it AssFault Gray in an effort to annoy me. It did not work.

Josh, I am attempting to educate you as best I can on the proper technique, etiquette and terminology of Gen3 ownership. You had a nice Gen1, now you have a nice Gen3. Help me to help you continue to move forward and improve.

Incidentally, I thought Stone Gray was the color of the '13 FJR. I honestly do not remember at 4:23 am.

Back on Topic:

New shield seems Very Tall from the saddle. It does not interfere with my vision, I am still looking over it. It does seem to have an influence on the bike's stability? and willingness to hold a straight line. Of course the wind is blowing unusually hard for us here so that may be affecting it as well.

Up to about 55mph I saw little difference in the fuel economy readout. Above 55 my fuel mileage numbers plummeted.

It is early to tell with less than 9 miles on this shield but I may have a Winter shield and will need to buy a Summer shield. We will see.

Now that i look closer it is the ass fault, pavement gray, liguid silver... whatever.

But the smoke/black shield looks even better on the Stone Gray like mine, or is it called awesome silver with a little champagne mixed in?

I had the same shield in clear on mine
With cruise set at 85mph I was seeing around 36mpg avg on a bbg so yeah fuel consumption seems it can be an issue at higher speeds. Fwiw I avg'd around 55mpg putzing around the Colorado hills at nafo

Here we go, getting off topic again.

'13 FJR, Stone Gray. Otherwise known as Blah Boring Beige. The color was chosen by interviewing Toyota Camry owners over the age of 75.

'14 FJR, Deep Red Metallic. Otherwise known as Lace Panty Pink or LipStick Pink. No one at Yamaha will admit how that color was chosen. It has been rumored that this paint color is mixed from strawberry lip gloss, rose petals, and the covers of Harlequin Romance novels. The paint booth has a constant mix tape of Liberace, George Michael and Elton John music playing softly in the background.

'15 FJR, Liquid Graphite. This paint gets its unique color from Military Rifle powder, buffalo horns, Huey helicopter blades, and USMC uniforms. The metallic additive is made from ground up .45 ACP cases. The paint booth has old John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies playing on big screen TVs and the painters are all listening to ZZTop while they paint.

'16 FJR, Cobalt Blue. Otherwise known as Ballsack Blue. You can figure this one out for yourselves.

New shield looks nice on the bike from the front view.

Aerodynamics is a game of fractions of an inch. Not surprised that such a small difference in shield size could have such a big impact on fuel economy.

Interested in hearing more thoughts on the new shield.

Cool shield. Yep, MPG changes, but the less beating you take when making a speed run from Chicago to Denver makes it worth it. Trust me.

Just because I have cruise control doesn't mean I use it. I rode to CA and back without a throttle lock even...no biggy.

But I'm gonna use my cruise control now, just so I can flip you off with my right hand!

Hey Redfish, let me know if the new shield does deflect wind off your hands. I have no intention of "manning up" to endure cold knuckles; desire for warm hands has propelled our civilization forward.

Handguards seem a bit out of character for an FJR, but I'll put them on if that's the way to keep my hands warm below 50F.

Real men also ride Gen 3's with built-in cruise control, adjustable suspensions, and 5 gears.
