Ordered real-time reflectives to replace the ones I pulled off the back of the bags. I messed one up, and removed both. Accidentally added (to the cart) reflectives for the moveable vent panels (by my knees), and the relatively new reflectives for the top of the sidecase lids, after seeing those on Greg Rice’s bike.

Not really posting a bunch of detail here but if you are interested in riding Newfoundland, we need to talk or at least exchange some emails. I have been there 5 or 6 times in the last 15 years or so. You would find it a very different experience from any riding vacation you have done. Unique.
Obviously not this year and who knows what the situation will be next year ...

I'll try to put something together in the next few days. I took remarkably few pictures so it will be more narrative than a visual experience. As I mentioned previously, this is just the most recent of several trips...LongRanger wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 3:07 pm FJRoss, why not post up Newfoundland experiences for all of us?

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Got a package today from Palm Dr. In there was a new to me cradle and a new to me 550 Garmin with added maps. I bought some of that as a package a little while ago on ADVRIDER. My purchase also included a nice touratec locking cradle.
When the original purchase got to me, I found out the cradle was not charging, and the 550 didn’t have a full map set on it for all of North America. I sent those and cradle that was going bad. I got all of it fixed up for 150 bucks.
I used to have to swap the 550 back and forth between my different bikes and also never had a backup cradle. Now I have 3 total cradles and 2 working great 550s.
Mounted them both up today and will see how they perform. The new to me 550 has a BMW splash screen. Gotta be worth at least $100 dollars more now.
I think I have about $400 invested. Should be good for a while.

You can change the splash screen to any picture in your arsenal. Now do preventative maintenance on the cradles... a couple of times a year work in contact cleaner on those pins (power off or with a non-conductive popsicle or plastic stick). Clean contacts on the Zumo with a white pencil eraser.

Saw an FJR pulled by a Fauquier county cop this week. Thought of El Toro Joe's ticket, "f@$k you county".

Mine had internal cradle problems. Water intrusion and here is the details from them
Cradle #1 - Main ribbon cable, epoxy repair; $65
Cradle #2 - circuit board damage, main ribbon cable jumped; $55
Zumo 69686 - base maps and 4GB SD card with maps; $30
I always use some contact cleaner and an old toothbrush on the pins and Zumo plates.
Bug, I don’t mind getting lost, it’s the finding a way back without walking I dread.
Need to figure out if there are any differences in my 2 separate Zumos. Would one of them be better for dirt or pavement. I wonder if one of them has more detail that would be better for off road. The FJR unit wont need obscure trails. The KLX found some tiny dotted and dashed lines down in Kentucky just fine and identified them as public roads. I don’t need that on the FJR unit.
Anyone know how to tell of those differences exist from unit to unit?

Should be no differences unit to unit. Depends on the map set you loaded.

Level of detail displayed may also depend upon your settings on the Zumo - on my 765, it is under Map, Detail.

September means new sneakers. Brake pads were thin, so there's a fresh set of EBC pads installed now as well.
