Rode about 250 miles this morning. Wanted to make sure all my maintenance went right. Well.....

1. My MP3 player took a dump and I can't get it to restart. New one ordered this afternoon.

2. The power wire for my radar detector isn't working. I've got power at the fuse block with a good connection for the wire, and the fuse is good, and the R/D works with the Cig. LIghter plug wire - must have pinched the wire under the gas tank. New one ordered this afternoon.

3. My lifeproof case for my I-phone won't allow the Headphone jack to seat the wire properly so I could play Pandora in place of the MP3 player. Disassembled the case and that was Ok for today, but I rather my own music.

Otherwise, the bike runs great and no drips no errors. Fuel mileage is 47.x and that is up a 3-4 mpg - maybe the new spark plugs helped.

We picked up a couple of rain showers, but otherwise, I nice shake down cruise.

Louanne asked for a ride up to the BRP, so we headed up there this morning in the cool mountain air, via some of the squiggly roads there is. Enjoyed the views, took a few pictures and headed down into Brevard to my new favorite sandwich place, Mayberries. They have micro brew as well, but no partaking today with us being on the bike. Headed down into the heat for the last 20 minutes of the ride...I love where I live and I love my FJR!

I know EXACTLY where I would find some. I would look in my tool box, second drawer from the top, left side.

But when I got those screws I ordered some from BikeBandit and got some over the parts counter at Friendly Yamaha in Baton Rouge. ;)

Try boats.net they sell Yamaha OEM parts by OEM part number and have full diagrams on their website.

I picked up all sorts of misc bits for my VMax there in the past.

Well, as luck would have it, Amazon sold me a 100 pack of nylon fillister head M5x0.8x20 screws for $11.

I realize the factory are button head, but fillister should fit under the covers just fine.

I will see if they work. Should be here tomorrow.

I too hit the NC hills and the BRP only I was farther north than the wheatie guy. About 280 miles of chillin' on the day. Literally. 66*F and light rain off and on when I got on the BRP up in Horse Gap, NC. I started out much later in the day than normal so ended up scooting around severe afternoon storms to get home. I'm really enjoying the top plate and riser work I did back in the spring and especially the Kaoko throttle lock a very kind and generous fellow member sent my my.

I finally added a HeliBar Bridge before my ride to the Left Coast. It made things much nicer.

And I know for a fact that the guy who sent you the Kaoko is a jackass. I can get reliable character witnesses to back that up.

But his Dad will be extremely pleased to know that you are enjoying it.

My helibars should be arriving tomorrow, I am looking forward to getting them on the bike as I'm a bit vertically challenged at 5'9" . Puts just a bit too much pressure on my hands and wrists after an extended time in the saddle. I also picked up an airhawk r for those long freeway miles. Probably won't use it in the Twisties.

I woke up early this morning and packed my binoculars and some water in the top box. Rode 50 miles down to the coast where there is a gaggle of flycatchers that nest under an abandoned bridge that runs over a coastal marsh bayou on a dead end road. Sat on the water bank for about an hour and watched them eat their breakfast. Also saw a woodpecker and many species of shore birds.

Stopped to fill up on the way home. Two Harley touring bikes were on the pump opposite of me. One guy walks over and we start talking. The other joined us and we enjoyed shooting the bull about riding. They asked me if my mesh jacket allowed air flow. Both really nice fellas and they are not posers - each bike has over 75,000 miles on it.

(Harley Dude 1) "The only thing I can't get past about your bike is that you can't ride it cross country."

(Pants) "What make you think that?"

(Harley Dude 2) "Well, you can't sit in that saddle all day and go long distance."

(Pants) "I beg to differ, my friend."

(Harley Dude 1) "Why do you say so?"

(Pants) "Well, for starters.... I just got back from California. 6300 miles in 16 days.

(Harley Dude 2) "On that?"

(Pants) "I've toured 1/2 the country on this bike. Let me show you some pictures..."

Back at the house about 10:00 am before the steam sauna and daily thunderstorms start their ruckus. Not much of a ride, but it was fun.

I dunno 'Pants. Are you sure that bike will make it across the country? It only has 5 gears you know. ;)

I would have loved to have been in on that conversation.

Living where I do only a few miles from Harley Davidson's final assembly plant in York, PA that is a conversation I have pretty often.

I think most dedicated cruiser riders don't recognize the ergonomics of a sport touring motorcycle. They group us with sport bikes, wrongfully so.

Parked my dirty and scraped-up mileage machine next to this glistening example of British motorbikes: Triumph T100.

The sticker on the Triumph's fork said it was manufactured in 2012. How can a five-year-old bike look this pretty?

You didn't show the other side, hence the comment: make sure the replacement screws stick out some on the back so you have something to grab onto to screw them out when they break. Please DAMHIK this.

Off to investigate Imgur.

That's easy. I learned how to remove broken nylon bolts long ago when I flew a Kombat 40 RC airplane.

http://kombat40.50megs.com/

A heated tip of a screw driver shoved in the remaining stud and allowed to cool takes them right out.
