I wonder how they are mounting the mats within the frame. I'm thinking a sheet metal backer that the rubber is either gorilla glued (or screwed into from the side based on the pick). Fill the 2x6 frame with 2 layers of the bigger mat?

The screw pattern on the side does look like there might be two layers of the big mat.

The guy that built the trap mentions: For the past 2 years, I've been doing a LOT of shooting indoors. For my backstops, I use something called "Stall Mat" It's 3/4" thick rubber. It takes some Serious abuse, and it's relatively quiet when impacted. I whack the stuff with .22 cal non stop and have gone up to .25 cal. I used to double it up, so in that frame, there's 2 layers. Then after blowing through it with my .25 cal, I add a 3rd layer now...".

It looks like he drove dry wall screws into the edges of the mats. Look along the sides, there are two rows for the two sheets.

Note that this is for PCP air rifles, 43-70 ft/lb @ 940 fps, generally 22-35 grain pellets, and up to 80 grain slugs @ 110 ft/lb.

A rim fire .22 short, low noise 30 grain @ 710 fps = 34 ft/lb.

In addition to a wood shop and mechanic shop in my garage I have an open lane from my basement to the garage door which happens to work out to exactly 15 meters (~50') for my pellet trap. POP, POP.

Shooting my Walther P22 with its suppressor ... I can hear the pistol's mechanisms and not the "pop" from the .22LR rounds. Not shooting it indoors, of course!

I'm working on different versions of a back yard pellet trap. No guns discharged in city limits, so staying a good neighbor. My 11x12" cardboard box with plywood backing and paper "baffles" is okay but could be much better. Something like that looks too heavy to lug out every time I want to plink but a variation of it would be great. I have 2 of the bigger mats and 1 of the smaller ones ready for pickup at TSC. I might make mine half that size or only use 2x4s and 1 of the bigger mats. More to follow.

...although one of my suppressors with subsonic loads would be fun to play with, the risk is too high this close to neighbors.

Oh come on man, you will be at a TSC, a real Man store. Use a little imagineering. Shop a couple of wheels and a handle. Perhaps a couple of pivoting side pieces so it will free stand. KISS is a crime for a man in a TSC.

No. No overhead hoist has been made yet. After building the work bench and getting a few cabinets out in place then my car jumped time and I had to roll the car into the garage. Then it took a few weeks to tear down, order and recieve parts and build back up. Not to mention being home for a few months with the Covid shut down really made my motivation go down and procrastination go up. Now that I'm back to work that should flip back and I'll get more done with the little free time I have.

I'm also still sifting through figuring out where to put things to get an idea of how and what to build as far a shelving.

I have a fire rated metal cabinet for storing flammable/toxic items. To supplement my fixed storage I also have two fairly large rolling racks with multiple adjustable shelves that can go to any under used location and can bring large projects to my work area. I use the rolling racks much more than expected.

Well, don't rush into it... take the time to figure out the layout and buy stuff once. If my shop were bigger, I'd like at least one rolling cabinet as well, doesn't have to be a big one, just to hold the tools I'm currently using while the bike is on the lift.

I do have a few Vidmar Drawer system's and a nice size fire rated cabinet that they were throwing away at work. I told them I'd haul them off to the scrap yard in my garage free of charge and they said ok!

I do too. I did rolling shelves in the shop and it makes re-configuring the space for different projects very easy.

I got to work on this slow evolution for a bit this week.

Built over head shelves over the work bench I'll eventually add these around the rest of the garage. I'm also going to ad work lights under the shelves to illuminate the bench better.

Then I started my gear shelves/cabinet still have a little left on it, but you get the idea. The shelves for my helmets will be sectioned off and when we were wiring the garage I put a plug in that area to charge the comm systems and such.

Ok folks, Pants has had a first hand look at Nate's Garage/Shop, and I can attest - this is the real deal!!

My absolute best impression was the fact that it is super insulated, including the garage door. In this August heat/humidity, with the door closed, we were perfectly comfortable with NO air conditioning. Extremely impressed with this. The lighting is very good and the floor paint seals the concrete and cleans up well, and it not slippery in our humidity (or lack thereof inside). Here's a few pics from yesterday:

Note that blue cabinet - Nate's got 3 or 4 of these in his shop and I am jealous to the 9th degree. His workplace was throwing these HEAVY duty metal cabinets away. What a score!

Anyhoo - I got some cool ideas for myself, in case we end up building a house when we move and I gotta build my own shop.

Just to note we had the garage door opened while doinh thr throttle body sync... thats why I'm sweating in that pic lol. Although i have contemplated some sort of exhaust fan and ducting system to the window so we dont have to open the door and can safely remain comfortable while running a bike indoors.

I've spent most my life now working in different types of shops and my garage will end up being a conglomeration of all my likes of every shop I've worked in. Starting with the insulation and AC. I can remember the first Air conditioned shop I worked in and man what a difference it makes.

Don't forget to get yourself a CO detector, even if you duct a pipe outside. Smoke alarm wouldn't hurt either.
