Eric, hindsight is 20-20, and I eventually did this... upgraded the headlights to F2 LED's, and felt no auxiliary lighting was necessary except for conspicuity. In that case, I would put 10-20W LED's down lower on the forks. Not sure what you have, but if one day you went that way, perhaps you could mount them down low.

I also was one of the folks with a broken clevis. They were great about the whole fix. If you search the other board, there is a big deal over there on that. IIRC, there is a thread here also about the possible solutions because the piece was machineed slightly off. Glad you are getting taken care of.
Uh... I got three words fer ya:
Push Mountain Road!!!
(he he he...)
I think whoever designed Push Mountain Road owned an FJR.

Rode up to check out the cabin. Lots of tornadoes in the area this week.
A smart person would have brought the truck and chain saw.
I rode the FJR.
Lawn chairs were not even blown over.
I made the right choice.
250 miles of nice riding.
Get to do it again in the morning going home.
I can now handle another week of crazy.
Mind and soul reset.

Talked to Eric at Penske today about my leaking rear shock. I am actually glad it started leaking. Turns out I had the broken clevis, too. He said it was a known issue. They used Yamaha original clevis from Yamaha, but because Yamaha designed them for the under-sprung Gen 2 shock and because of the way the bolt unevenly pinches.... well, you know. He's replacing it as warranty with a different style (Yamaha original R6 clevis). Doing the full service.
I am also having him put a different spring on it since I'm apparently more ... uh..
substantial than the original purchaser.
Shock should be back next week. Gotta say, I was impressed with the customer service there, even during the pandemic! Eric was on the phone with me for 25 min answering all my questions and explaining everything to me.
Dash shelf is in and am working on wiring.
And apparently the Wuhan Flu didn't speed up shipping from China! Waiting on parts from Aliexpress!
Yeah it is a known issue and many were affected including myself. Penske promised to get back with some of us regarding a fix. Never did. I until I read this post I wasn't aware Penske had a fix.
The fix some of us used a fix from a user on a forum. His idea (forgot who - might have been --G) was to machine a bit of the bolt head away to engage the small diameter of the bolt farther into clevis's small diameter and in the process butt the larger diameter of the bolt against the clevis. Install using blue locktite and torque the bolt/nut snugly, ignoring the torque values in the service manual. Worked great. I wasn't impressed with Penske customer service - they did replace my clevis but never contacted me about the fix.
I am thrill you are getting yours fixed.

After many hours the McCruise is installed!!

Now I need it to stop snowing so I can take it out for a test ride.
Finally a nice day!! First ride of the season and a 60 miles test of the McCruise. It worked great, very happy with how well it holds speed up and down hills. It was expensive, took me a long time to install, and if today is any indication I am going to love this upgrade!!

Penske broken clevis issue if you have access.
https://www.fjrforum.com/topic/170186-b ... B%2Bclevis
CAV47 should have photos of the broken clevis since it was his thread back in 2016.
I made this drawing some time ago...... basically if the clevis is much wider than the 1.18 (the Penske was), then torquing the lower shock bolt would squeeze the clevis (noticeably) and cause a stress point along the top, ultimately could fracture. Either of installing a washer as a spacer (indicated as "shim location" on the left side or machining the bolt head thinner on the right side would allow the effective length of the bushing to increase....

Finally able to get out for the first ride of the year! After a winter of wrenching/farkling/wiring &rewiring I was more than pleased to report no drips, spills, leaks, sparks, rattles or smoke! Also very happy with the new EMGO FZ1 mirrors....what a difference over stock. The new touring screen does the job too.

I found them after some searching. Sorry about the screen shots, but they were buried deep in the archives

Wet with a little bit of debris. Not a day for shredding. But it was a good ride.

Took over the carport again. This time for cleaning/waxing. Once per year, whether it needs it or not

!
Whenever I get it this clean and shiny I remember why I instantly fell in love with the black cherry the first time I saw it.

Or, I didn't know you could send them to Penske, so if Jim has some contact info, I might just use them for the next rebuild and get the fix.

Phone ( open but working from home during "stay at home" ) PM me and I'll send ya their number!

Well, it was a nice weekend. Weather wasn't bad and most importantly I got to ride.
We have had some tornadoes in Florida the last few weeks. That gave me a good excuse to ride up and check out the cabin. So rather than take the truck up Friday night like I usually do I decide to just get up early on Saturday and ride the bike.
Nice 250 mile ride up. No wind at the cabin. The lawn chairs were not even blown over. I think the closest tornado was about 10 miles away.
Didn't do much Saturday afternoon. Just kind of chilled and enjoyed being outside.
Sunday I got up and pack and took a nice ride home. Took the scenic route. Probably put about 550 miles on the FJR this weekend.
I have a nice route that keeps me out of big cities. Takes about 5 hours of riding to get home, but most of it is nice riding.
Started out running out to the gulf. There is a really good road going out there. The Ozello trail is one of the best roads in FL. It actually has curves and runs out through the salt marsh and to the gulf.
Little strip of land takes you to an island that is on the end of the road.
I get lots of pictures here.
Lots of people out fishing yesterday.
The weather started out really nice.
One of FLs long straight roads.
This one goes through a couple of management areas and the Green Swamp. Straight as an arrow for miles. Not much traffic and pretty area.
Bit of drizzly rain the last few hours on the way home. Not enough to spoil the ride. Didn't even stop to put on the rain jacket. It was in the 70s even with the rain.
Good Weekend.
