I’ve almost purchased extenders, and I’ve almost purchased the mirrors. And we’re all bored. Can you post a pic or two of the FZ1 mirrors on the bike? I’m leaning toward spacers, but could be swayed.....

Dshane wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 7:50 am I took apart the front dash to install mirror extensions when they arrive next week. I was bored.....it took about 25 mins as it was my first time. I hope the extensions help, my elbows get boring after a bit.
If extenders don't work FZ1 mirrors work great. Some say they are ugly but I don't agree, plus I can see. To me they just look different.

Updated my OEM lights with these.

Image

The stock one is on the clutch side. LED is on the throttle side. Haven’t been able to get out at see how much an improvement they will be. Hope they are better, getting to the bulbs is a chore. Almost had to enlist one of my kids with smaller hands to reach the dust covers.

Install was simple. Really liked the way they accommodated the dust covers for the heat sink. You put the the 3 tab cover plate in first, hooked the retention ring over it, then put the dust cover on. Then slide the bulb in and give it a turn to lock it in. Plug and play with the OEM. Easy install expect getting into the FJR.

I agree with getting out to ride, but please take more caution than you normally would. A few things to keep in mind.
1. If you crash and have to go to a hospital, it'll likely have many COVID-19 patients there. Do you really want to be there?
2. If you crash and have to go to the hospital, you are putting extra strain on the healthcare system to take care of you too.
3. If you crash and have to go to the hospital, it's very likely that your loved ones won't be able to visit you. I heard of a local rider here who went down and had some head trauma. His wife is a nervous wreck as she can't go see him.

We all know the risks we take every time we swing a leg over, but the stakes are a little higher at the moment and something to keep in mind while out getting your two wheeled therapy.

Hi Bill. Here for some photos of the FZ1 mirrors on my 17 FJR. I would have pulled it out of the garage but it is snowing right now.

Front view.

Image

Notice the FZ1 mirror position is farther out than the hand grips.

Image

Sitting on the bike with my left hand on the grip you can see behind you without an arm in the way.

Image

This might be a little distracting with all the stuff in the garage but here is a view from the side, along with the DR650, two bicycles, a tire changer and a Bushtec trailer (for sale).

I just installed the EMGO knock off FZ1 mirrors and I don't mind the look. For sure I'm gonna be able to see past my handguards and elbows. Don't know why I waited so long. And they are about half the price of the extenders I've seen. They also fold up tighter/closer to the body I think than the OEM mirrors.

Rode to work last night for the first time this year. Took the long way, felt great to be out on 2 wheels again. More cooler nights coming, I hate the cold, but maybe after this weekend me and the hanging tropical plants can be out of doors more often. They do cold about as well as I do.

Rode the f@$k out of it. In solitude. I’m cold down to my soul, but it was a terrific ride.

Retorqued new steering bearings and did throttle sync. All set for the season. Might wash off last years dirt and salt soon.

Today the FJR became a delivery vehicle. Part of our E Learning involves students reading these novels. The weather was decent after noon, so I popped the top case open and began deliver. Each book had the address and phone number on a piece of paper. So I rolled up, called the house and left the book either outside or in the mailbox.

Took a good hour and a half of two wheel therapy.

Washed it and went over it with Meguires paint cleaner. It's a light compound that removes what washing doesn't, and light scratches. It basically cleans and buffs the paint. Next I'll polish which puts the oils back in paint and gives that deep look. Then a coat of wax to protect it.
Wow the old Black Cherry is still looking like the fastest color. 😁

Not sure if Sunday was my last ride for awhile. We have a stay at home order in Florida now. Not sure how hard they will enforce it. I guess I could bring the FJR home and commute, but my commute is very short and very not scenic. Easier just to take the truck. I am essential and have to continue to go to work.

Order is effective tonight at midnight. I am going to leave work tomorrow and head up to the cabin. I will clean out the fridge and get any supplies I have left up there and bring them home. I know I have 3 rolls of toilet paper!!!! I will grab my tools so I can do some house project over the next few weekends. It looks like just going for a scenic enjoyable bike ride might be over for the time being in Florida.

Now I am going to see what it's like to have riding withdrawal like you guys do up north.

Hopefully some Barney Fife does not take me to jail. I plan on having a full tank, snacks and drinks. So I will have zero human contact unless I get stopped. I plan to drive very close to the speed limit and hopefully fly under the radar.
