I also hooked up the jumper to flush the ABS.

Yeah, yeah, yeah....... I gotta take some crap because I dish it out sometimes.

Don’t fool ourselves, ain’t one of us that wouldn’t take a phone call to help a brother or sister out in a hot second. Like one of my older track athletes told a new freshman of mine today. “If he ain’t giving you a hard time, then he doesn’t like you”.

Also. I looked at the mileage on my front tire is about 9,300. I have another sitting on the rack. Prob won’t hold up to a week of abuse over spring break. Time to change it.

As a testament to ineptitude, it took me almost 2 hours to install my new PIAA horns, which for most would be a 10 minute job. I don’t know how durable anything is going to be in that location, but....

The bike now sounds like a Buick Roadmaster when I beep the horn.

I always take longer than usual to install things, or perform maintenance. But, I typically do not break things, scratch stuff, lose fasteners, etc. In other words, I think I do pretty good work. I have always looked at working on things as therapy. Got tunes going in the shop, and just work/think through the job. I still have tires installed by the shop in Cumming you recommended. He's a good guy.

I agree on the durability of the horns. Cheap Chinese crap, that I am not sure will survive much water dousing. But, I don't typically ride in the rain, unless traveling. I think they sound like my dads old 1970 Buick Electra 225. They don't seem really loud, but, the guys tell me it sounds like a car.

ice_station_zebra wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 10:13 am I've been reading more and more about the advisability of these front and rear dash cams on various sandboxes. Since I already had the bike apart installing other farkles, and I had an extra unused circuit on my PDM60, I figured what the ****...lets try this camera thing, especially for the rear. Found a good place to mount the lens I think.

So you have a screen that will allow you to see what is back there?? Or have proof for the authorities when you are rear ended? The install is clean and neat looking. Kinda James Bond-ish. Will it spray an oil slick if you flip a switch? Looks good.
Yes to the screen(mounted on my dash shelf) and yes to the proof god forbid that I get rear ended. I would love to mount some rocket launchers and tank cannons in addition to the oil slick feature, but I've run out of empty circuits and places to mount switches!
That is a great idea and setup. I run my GoPro continuously on all my rides which of course captures only the front. I look at it the same way as God forbid something happened I have a video record of it. Secondly I often pull video off of it if it is worthy (I enjoy making videos of events motorcycling and otherwise) and make photos of the high resolution frames as well. I will not leave home without it. Sorry if I missed it, but what type of cam is it and what resolution do you run it at?

Sorry Bill I am sure I made that job seem easier than it was. The bike I bought had already been wired up for 2 horns so it was easy for me to install them. Its is not the easiest spot to work on as well. But man them horns are great!

Took one of my favorite rides which is Rt 176 through the Tryon and Saluda area on a beautiful day. Great twisty road that I often have to myself during the week. On the NC side I usually see "The Man" on every ride so you have to be careful. There are 20 mph speed limits on that road and believe its a sport for them to ticket motorcyclists. In fact yesterday I passed one in Saluda unmarked and next thing I know he turned around and was following me. I keep the speed limit always riding through there so he must have been sorely disappointed in me :D Besides him the roads were empty so I made a could photos from my GoPro footage. Always fun messing around with them and was just puttin along have a good ole time.

It's a Blueskysea DV188 and the resolution is 1080p front and back. I have not actually gone out with it riding yet so I cant speak to the quality of the image as advertised, but the cost of entry was relatively low so if I like it I may trade up to a better unit with more features down the road. I also have a gopro hero 4 which I use for documenting the touristy aspects of travel and riding.

Received my Marc Parnes balancer. Removed, balanced, and reinstalled the front wheel. I threw a weight a while back, or so I assume, because I had Bad vibes, and that thing dropped like a rock on the balancer.

First time I’ve ever removed/reinstalled a motorcycle wheel. Tomorrow I’ll try the rear wheel for practice.

I’m less than two weeks from these tires being done anyway. Tempted to just go ahead and put the new ones on. Desperately trying to keep up with 1911/Jim/Iris/Wheaton in SC plain tore up the sides of my front tire.

Your rear wheel looked like toast on Sunday. I suggest you practice on the rear wheel...and dont pull a Cav. Call griff if you have an issue, thats what I do.

I resent that remark, Mark! Lol

I rode the FJR to the poker game tonight. I can confirm the rear brake is very firm. Kinda cold at 46 degrees, but nothing a heated jacket, seat, grips, and CB windshield won’t fix! I am ready to roll next Thursday for sure.

The Marc Parnes balancer is great isn't it? I had the cheapo harbor freight one before and that thing was off about 20 degrees due to crappy sticky bearings. The Marc Parnes is smooth as silk.

I rode it to work...what else?

I have my coworker's 2006 again for a few days so I rode that to work this morning. Need to run some stale fuel out of it and put fresh in. Riding it to Bedford, PA on Saturday to meet a friend of mine from OH who is buying it. Coworker has some lingering health issues related to his military service and it looks like he's going to be hanging up his riding gear permanently. Finding myself more than a little sad for him. I enjoyed many miles traveling with Bill and had really hoped he could get back on the bike but some recent news has made him reach a decision and unfortunately that decision is to quit riding. I'm still hoping in another year or two he might be bike shopping again but only time and the doctors will tell.

On the bright side my friend Jim who is buying the bike has been hoping to pick up an FJR and I was able to set these two up and help find a happy medium where everyone is reasonably happy. The new owner was my riding partner in last year's Void Rally and the bike will definitely be seeing some miles added to the odometer. He's already looking at showing up at the Oswosso tech day and I'm working on getting him to SEO. If he hasn't joined here yet I will be having that remedied very soon.

Fremont. I first met the guy on ADVRider forum when he started asking some questions about LD rallying and it just kind of went from there. I helped him out with routing his first IBA Saddlesore ride last summer and we hit it off and have become friends. Following my wreck at EOM last year Dianne wasn't healed up in time for the Void Rally and as it was going to be Jim's first big event I offered to ride as a 2 bike team to help each other out. He's been looking for an FJR on and off ever since but needed one to fit his budget.

We all remember the commercial, "Wanna Get Away?" Well after watching the world loose its mind (Don't go to Costco) and my hard earned retirement savings disappear in a blink of an eye over the Coronovirus, I figured I could either sit with my whisky bottle and wallow in misery or I could take advantage of a beautiful spring day and head up to the Parkway via 178 and 215. Some of the best roads around here in the Upstate of SC for those not familiar. Great therapy to forget about all that's wrong with the world for sure. I got home, the endorphins pumping, and then sat with the whisky bottle  thankful for having such a great motorcycle to ride on a specatcular day.
