Forced visual. 15 yard penalty. Loss of first down.

In contrast to Aunt Kelly’s bike, the MT-09 has a more relaxed riding position than the FJR. I have to put the lowering brackets on the FJR to get my feet where they naturally are on an MT-09. Still a small and light bike.

Good day for a ride today in the Canadian banana belt. Put on 170 miles but had to cut it short when I realized I left my wallet at home and was going to need gas.

Finally put it up for a few months. I hate riding in the cold.

I noticed the green light on the battery tender

In the last couple of days, got the Traxxion fork spring kit installed, and some maintenance items done.... getting it ready for its new owner who is a very good friend of mine, it won't be far away and coming back once in a while for servicing......

I moved the FJR the front of the garage adjacent to the tool box and bench. Moved the DR to where the FJR was. Getting ready the FJR ready for a valve check, spark plug change and engine coolant change.

With freezing fog here the city/county is putting calcium chloride on the road. Riding season is officially done for 2019. No thank to having a salty brine on my bikes.

I took my first motorcycle trip on my Suzuki TLR. The bank noticed odd small charges across several states every two hours and cut off my card. I had to call them and tell them that was all the further I could go on a motorcycle before I needed gas, please turn the card back on. After that I started thinking about all the other things that could go wrong like lost wallets and whatever. I usually have some cash hidden on the bike when I'm more than a tank away from home.

I have a dedicated bike card. I worry irrationally about losing or leaving my wallet. American Express never cuts off due to irrational distance or speed. They will shut down on fraud. They’ll let me know if they think there’s a problem.

Capital One will shut off on illogical speed or distance, but it’s automated. When it happens, I get a text. I reply Yes and the card is instantly back on. Immediately.

Yea, that was some years ago. I still get paranoid and nothing wrong with having cash for backup.

Put R1 shift arm on. Should give more room for my boot and allow the shifter to return and reset. I was having trouble not resetting after a shift and not shifting into next gear. A lot shorter throw. Cleaned up the bike. 60's tomorrow, going riding with a buddy that picked up a 2016 BMW K 1600 GTL.

Rode to work this morning. Saw 4 deer off to the side of the road grazing. Glad they stayed put.

FWIW, when the shifter does not return and fully center it is almost always that item 28 in the picture below needs to be cleaned. As you now know it's a bit of a PITA to get to but it greatly improves shifting once serviced. Item 29 is a thrust washer (wave washer) intended to keep the shift arm from moving in and out and should not be completely flattened when bolt #28 is tightened or that will also prevent the shifter from completely returning. You probably resolved the shifting issue when installed the shorter R1 shift arm by cleaning #28 and the shift arm is just incidental.

Walked by it's half-naked chassis to ride the FZ-07 to work. Wiring stretched along it's length for FuzeBlock, Laam seat heaters, and the "ignition-switch-is-on" sensor wire from the glove box cigarette lighter.

It's going to be a bitch repairing the cracked fairing pieces.

Today the weatherman said it'd be stunning and he was right. I've been working an afternoon/evening shift on this project which at first was awesome because I could get up and go for a leisurely ride before the weather got too hot. Now I have to wait till it's almost time to work to let it warm up out there when it's not raining. Today, we got up early and hit the grocery store for the usual stuff and the Thanksgiving stuff before it turns into a complete madhouse. The plan was to get back to get a ride in before I had to work and we timed it well.

As I was pulling on my boots anticipating my first ride in well over a week thanks to spending last week in Minnesota, I had a thought. Son is off of school this week and playing in his room. I walked in and tossed a jacket at him and told him to change clothes and lets go. He grinned big time and flew into action....not a usual sight for a lethargic ten-ager.

Bout an hour around my usual loop of the twistiest roads east of Dallas with partly cloudy skies and 68F temps, we had a good time.

Both big fairing pieces are cracked, although the port side is probably repairable. Starboard side will get the best I can do with JB Weld and Bondo to fill in missing chunks, three or four that are the size of a thumbnail. Bags are scuffed and scraped; both have the silver rubrail, but neither has the "FJR" inside it. (Rubrails may get jettisoned.)

Deciding now whether to paint them as close as possible to stock or go all-out Yellow Jacket.

She's taken me on 80,000 miles of fabulous riding, but I'm hesitant to spend a bunch of money that will never be reflected in valuations for resale or trade-in. Am hoping to get her to 100,000 miles just to prove her toughness.
