I've been busy the past several days. I made and mounted my own aux dash just above the stock gauges, it gives me a very stable platform for the GPS and SPOT and doesn't block any of my view of the gauges. Put in LED tail lights, both brake and turn signals, then added a brake light flash module. I very happy with the way everything turned out.

Rode it 320 miles on scenic and technical roads. Tires scuffed edge to edge, smiling from ear to ear.

Today I put my rain gear in the top box. Then I clicked the top box onto the SR-357. Then I put my camera in the tank bag.

What is WRONG with you? The screws are for when you go Ice Racing! You are not supposed to put them in your tires unless it is winter and you live North of Dallas.

TPMS was showing 24 psi, I had them install a T-patch for peace of mind.

In your situation I may have done the same thing. Peace of mind when you have the luxury of time and convenience is priceless.
On the road? A plug. I had just barely 1000 miles on a PR2 and was in Cortez Colorado on one of my Trips of A Lifetime and found a metal shard in almost exactly the same spot. I plugged that tire and worried. I worried the entire trip. 8000 miles later when that tire was worn out I was not worried at all. That plug never leaked and it never let me down.
I plugged the rear tire of a friend's Street Glide 6 months ago. Of all things the battery pack out of an electronic cigarette went through it. I figured there was no way that little plug was going to hold in a hole that large. The hole shrank when we pulled the battery out and I had trouble forcing the plug into the hole. He ran 5 months like that.

That tire is a 190, which I like because it puts the speedo dead nuts spot on, but my experience shows PR4's last me around 10k. I'll prolly be going with a PR2 this next go around to see if I can get closer to Tony's 16k to 20k.

I don't think you will get more miles out of a PR2. I have run the original Pilot Road, the PR2, PR3, PR4 and PR4GT. The PR4 has offered me the best longevity but not by very much. I consistently get around 9K out of my tires, Pop usually 8 to 8.5K.
I suspect his tire life will improve now though...

I've decided I'm going to try a set of PR4 GTs for YFO. They need to last 7500 miles. I really don't want to mess with changing tires on my vacation if I can avoid it. I only get 6500 out of a rear PR2 now. I'm talking 6600 and the first cord is showing. A little better on the front. Zip it!!!! I know that some of you can go 50,000 on a set of tires. I know that my right wrist is probably contributing more to my tire wear than anything else. I've read dozens of forum pages on this topic and I have over thought this issue into oblivion. The FJR eats tires and with me on it, it eats them faster than most. That's all I know - we will see what the PR4 does...

Pants, if you get MORE miles out of a PR4 than a PR2 please post it up. You will be the first I've heard of that happening. EDIT: you may get enough on this trip though if you are droning out to Kali and not ripping along on the curves.

First, why would anyone be upset that you go through tires faster than the average? You ride your bike, we ride ours. Do I wish I was as good as you? Certainly. Am I upset that I am not? Not at all. I brag to my Harley buddies about "that fella from Lafayette". It seems to me that you are enjoying YOUR bike the way that YOU want to enjoy it. If that means burning up tires at an increased rate, Oh Well. Your bike, your money.
I do think that Wheaton is right about longer tire life on this LD trip. He may be wrong about the PR4 vs. PR2 longevity. I have not seen much difference across the range of the Pilot Road series but MY riding has become a little more aggressive over time also. I do know that the PR4 GT front tire lasted longer than any front tire I ever ran.

Fwiw, like Wheatie is saying, I think you guys will be doing much more slab work, like better than 95%, on your way to and back from yfo even if it's non interstate. I put my first set of 4 gt's on just before nafo last year, and they got taken off with 10.5k on them, I might've squeezed 11k or better out of the rear if I had to. These miles were mostly slabbing it, but included some twisties like during the nafo and Hooterville runs. Maybe 5% of the life of those tires was moderately aggressive twisties. Pants, I think I can safely say that you might wear your tires out a bit quicker in the twisties than I usually might, but I'd be very surprised if you weren't good for 7500+ miles on the yfo run with a 4gt. I don't have any personal experience yet with a pr2 rear, but I can say that the pr4gt's handling in heavy rain is good. I figure the pr2 can't be too bad in the rain too though because that's what Tony runs and he's no doubt seen his share.

I think my comment was taken out of context. I'm just discouraged that I don't get the tire mileage on my Gen 3 bike that I used to get on my Gen 1. Can I afford to replace tires more often? Sure. Do I like the hassel? Nope. Do I enjoy hearing about how some of you can go around the world on 1 set of tires? Uh... no.

Replaced the pod light from SuperBrightLEDs that had some water ingress. They were very easy to deal with on the return and replacement.
Put in some routes to SEOR on the GPS.
Also went in 3 ways with a buddy of mine on a Harbor Freight Lift. He always helps me with working on it anyway. Now I will be able to work on it more comfortably. I will send some pictures later. He has a very stout I-Beam above the lift that will be nice to use when removing tires to get changed.
