Dealers @##$%^^%%$
Why can't you get decent service anymore.
The other day I took two bikes into a dealer I have had good luck with in the past.
The Honda VT1300 needs a back tire. Got it back and yep it has a new back tire, even the right one.
Problem is now the rear brakes work about 80%. Pedal bottoms out.
FJR needed the valve clearance checked. They said they did it.
Now it leaks oil. My FJR has never leaked a drop of oil.
I dropped the FJR back off to them.
We shall see.
I am a nice guy. They are testing that.

Well, the oil leak indicates that they at least pulled off the valve cover. (If your FJR still runs well it probably means they didn't adjust any of the shims.)

Pinched valve cover seal? I did that on my old GSX-R600 once, the spot by the frame where you couldn't see very well it pinched and didn't fully seal and leaked. Was a quick fix though.
Couple of pumps didn't fix the back brake? If they moved the pads in at all it'll do that and you just have to pump it back against the disk.

It still runs fine.
I was kind of thinking if they can't button it back up without it leaking. What are the changes they actually did the work right?

Pumping helped, but it still feels "spongy". It didn't before. Before it would easily lock up the back tire.gixxerjasen wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 2:17 pm Pinched valve cover seal? I am going ride it around the neighborhood tonight and see if it feels better with a little stop and go.

Brakes, I would hold the brake down with some sort of device overnight to see whether that can squeeze the air out of the line...if not, it needs a good bleedin.gixxerjasen wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 2:17 pm Pinched valve cover seal? Gasket...atleast they took it off...didn;t get it back on right, but they took it off. Don't laugh, but did they give you before and after measurements on what the clearances were, like on the Valve clearance excel worksheet we have around here?

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Gen3, a bit more of an issue to get the right side gasket in without pushing it off the cover... those of us that know, reach in and make sure it is in proper place before we drop the front of the cover down...... betcha it's leaking along the right front corner.... or at a half moon.
Me personally, I can't stand anyone working on my bike but me..... I love it all to hell when warranties run out.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Rode it. Shameful to admit, first time this year...
I left the house, went a few miles of surface streets to get gas, then some slab north, and 2 laners back.
I realized in that first few miles why I've gravitated towards the DRZ and back roads so much lately; almost zero interaction with other vehicles. In the first 3 miles last night, I had to dodge a car turning left across in front of me, one merging into my lane, and another almoat back into me at a gas pump...

I just had a cam cover gasket leak myself, discovered it at SEO ramble in fact. Must admit mine was entirely on me but now don't feel quite as bad. Sorry to see this Dan.danh600 wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 12:59 pm Dealers @##$%^^%%$

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
A new PR4GT showed up on Monday, yesterday I ordered a new pair of Alpinestars Web Goretex boots from Pacific MotoSports. Defying all the logic about not doing major maintenance before a big trip I plan on doing the relay arm/centrestand lube job this Saturday. I wanted to do it last Saturday but raYzerman never showed up to help me.

I'll be needing to do that soon too. If you purchased your tires from the US, where did you find a good price?

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
^^^^ Thanks for that. Your rear would be something like $213 in USD. Very sorry about the Canadian prices.
I have found rear PR 4 GT tires in the $180-$190 range and front PR 4 GT around $145. I suppose I should get them on order and have them on hand so there won't be any ugly surprises when I need tires for a trip and can't get them. On the way to EOM last fall I picked up a drywall screw in my rear tire and did some tread damage to the deflating tire before we stopped and the tire went completely flat.
