I think that's the proper decision. Riding that far, especially to end up riding at SEO, is not something I'd do on a tire that's worn. Good call.

Good choice.
In the event of the alternative, I was going to suggest packing a tube of Shoe Goo. I can state emphatically that, applied correctly, a lather of that stuff on a loaded FJR will last about 200 miles, taking it easy, of course.
But I wouldn't call that "a plan"......

You guys inspired me. I’m changing out my rear pilot Road 4 gt with only 750 miles on it. Wayne talked me into it today.

This is the beauty of having a tire machine. You can leave on bigger trips on fresh rubber and run the take offs later.

750? That’s unnecessary. Unless you’re going cross country and you plan on 5K plus, you are just practicing tire changing.

I have removed the wheel . Now my hands are covered in brake dust. may as well clean and inspect calipers and pads. I hate this part.

I thought Wayne would post a pic by now. Slacker. My rear tire had a valve stem leak (I think). I bought 90 degree stems to put on. Went over to Wayne's yesterday and he pulled the tire and we put on the new valve stem. Put tire back on rim and started to balance. Then Wayne noticed a tiny pebble stuck in the tire. Which turned out to be a 2 inch piece of metal, no head. So new tire ordered. Wayne may patch from the inside the 750 mile tire and use it in the future. So 3 hours and $220 wasted. But like Wayne said, better now than an hour from Marietta.

Interesting you mention the valve stem. I had 90 degree valve stems, had them in for years now. Last year, after a tire change, I noticed the rear would lose a couple pounds every month, which it never previously did.
I switched over to the FOBO system, from Garmin, and thought I'd use their new valve stems this time around. My tire changed guy took the old ones out and the o-ring that seals the rear one was cut and missing a chunk. Now I know why it leaked air. I'd never have thought it was that, but it sure was damaged.

Lowest I've gone was about 1,000 mi. total. When I bought the 21 GS Rallye, the Michelin Anakee Adventure tires had 300 mi. on them. I rode them for about 700 mi., then took them off and threw them away. They were the noisiest tire I have ever used. High pitched whine and singing at anything other than straight up and down. Guy paid like $650 for the tire change at Wooly's BMW in Atlanta. They drove me nuts through my ear plugs.

I never got much mileage out of Pirelli Angel GTs. They wore quickly and felt like crap really quick. Could have been my riding style as well.
