Working from home today I didn't think I'd ride it.
Then I get an urgent text from my wife, she left her lunch at home. She works at a daycare 5 miles away down country roads and the temperatures are still nice this early. Thus, I exemplified the kind of selflessness and self sacrifice that is needed to keep a marriage working, and sucked it up and rode over to deliver her lunch to her. That's the kind of husband I am.
And ........
85 miles later her lunch is delivered.
It is beat to all hell from riding in the top case for the last 2 hours in Texas heat, but she will not even notice because you are so awesome.

Fitted dual Fiamm “Freeway Blasters”, then went for a ride, discovered that my newly refreshed seat is only good for a couple of hours.Maybe time to replace the sheepskin, but a bit disappointed that the shape changes and inclusion of gel into the seat didnt result in a significant improvement..
I've never met anybody whose money saving measures directed at seat comfort have made much progress at all. I've got a buddy who fucked with the seat on his bike non-stop for years. He finally sold the bike stating 'it didn't fit him', but the real motivator was his ass. Now he bought himself a new bike and he's back to paying a local guys to carve this, pad that, nip this tuck that.
At some point, admit defeat, see what works for everybody else and get it done.

It wasnt money saving that motivated my choice, it was time. I bought the bike in February, had it delivered in March..finally got to ride it in April, and by late April had enough miles on it to make some decisions about a windshield and the seat. We were away in Scotland for most of May, during which time the best m/c person in my city made some changes to the seat. Last night was the first test ride of significan duration to evaluate those changes.
Next winter I may investigate either seat concepts or Laam...Today I’ll buy a new piece of sheepskin

I wish, squeezed in a quick ride before my 9:30am meeting.
If I wasn't the one running the meeting, I might have been late or missed it.

Looked at it, and wondered if the rear tire will make it through the June 23rd ride to Cherohala, et al and back. It only has the Ramble and the Hungry Mother trips on it.

Rode it a short distance. Then changed the engine and final drive oil. 91,000 miles on my 09 now. Best motorcycle I ever had.

Wheatie - based on my first hand knowledge of your individual position on tire wear and fitness for duty, let me say without hesitation that your tire will indeed make another trip to Deals Gap, and in all likelihood, another one after that. Fear not, as soon as the cords wear through, and the only thing between your rim and the road is .... ahem .... LITERALLY air, then hopefully your TPMS will send you a text message. As long as that is happening on one of the three straight pieces of road scattered throughout the 52 mile skyway, then you should be able to slow the bike down safely, lather some shoe goo on that spot, and be on your way. I'm sure your friends will gladly wait for you.
Now then, I would recommend that under these circumstances, you resist the temptation to Bluetooth post on these boards while you are riding. Heaven forbid if you miss that important text message.
Ride more, stress less, my friend....

Wheatie and I need to do a long distance trip together starting with fresh tires and see who can milk their tires the longest.

First one stopped on the side of the road with a flat is the loser.

Rode it to work...checked the rear tire and saw a very small metallic object flush with the surface...looks like I'll be installing a new set of tires before blast off for Spearfish.

Plug it and go if it's on the bottom. Done.

If you find it's on the top, you can always rotate the wheel so it's on the bottom and then plug it.

Walked right past the Gray Ghost, mounted La Bestia de Azul for a DAKAL reconnisance mission. 85 miles later I got home just before the hail! Pays to live right.

Sheepskin won't change the shape to what you really need. When you get to Nakusp, borrow a seat, try it, figure it out..... or skip to the end... Russell.
