When I read the post about JREW's infection diagnosis and treatment I was concerned and skeptical.

Now I am very concerned. Get well soon John.

I saw that you stopped for BBQ...I Googled the place and saw that it did not have good reviews, which was kind of what I was expecting. Hope John's finger issue gets resolved quickly.

As strange as it sounds, if you need some day ride suggestions in the White Mtns, I know every road over there!

Glad you got checked out John.

Infection is nothing to play with. A few years ago I got a small red bump on the underside of my forearm. Within a couple of days my arm was red, swollen and really painful. Went to the DR and I had an aggressive strain of MRSA, probably from the gym I was lifting in at the time. Goods news is antibiotics, especially IV ones work fast. It cleared up quickly. No surgery, but they did run a piece of gauze up into the sore.

Hope you heal quick John.

It is serious.

Just a few minutes ago a PA came in, numbed the finger, then sliced open what he believed to be the locus of the infection, then squeezed ( ala Dr. Pimple Popper" to see if they could capture some of the infected material. They seemed to be satisfied with what they captured and will do a "culture and sensitivity test" on the material. The nurse explained that the culture will take 24 hours plus to reveal what the bacteria is, and then some more time to ascertain what antibiotic should specifically be used to kill that bacteria. In the meantime they will continue IV of broad spectrum antibiotics. Best case - the broad spectrum antibiotics work against this bacteria and all looks good on Monday he might get released with oral antibiotics and be able to continue our journey. Worst case scenario, it is a really bad drug resistant bacteria and would require insertion of a PIC line and up to six weeks in the hospital. Or, something in between. We should know more on Monday. Meanwhile we (Scott and I) will enjoy better WEAX, ride the roads Joey sends us, get Scott a new back tire, and hang with John as needed.

A good old fashioned New England thunderstorm happening at the moment.

I like this part of the post the rest of it I don't like. At least John's sense of humor is intact and is getting proper care.

I want to thank everyone for the well wishes and for the good-natured ribbing. It's never fun to be sick, and even less so when away from home, so when so many send their best wishes, it helps.

We learned a little more about the kind of bug and according to the information John found on Google, it has something to do with sheep?? But I'm not telling. :bustinlove:

Probably South Dakota sheep if you caught it from BigJohn..not that there is anything wrong with that. Lol. Seriously, I hope that you get better soon and have more fun on the way back to the world's smallest mountain range.
