Oddly enough a coworker just came and got me to go look out the window and it's snowing like crazy right now. Bike is almost white with a dusting of snow on it. LOL. Not to worry it's warming up, stupid PA weather....
When you're as crazy as you and I, there's always the chance of having to call the wife to come pick you up because you're totally snowed in at work. Doesn't look like that was the case for you. I did have to scraped snow off the seat one afternoon and carefully ride through some slush in the parking lot to get out to the clear main roads once.
As it is, I'm doing an inverse BkerChuck riding streak. Day 57 of no riding is in the books! Thanks to the cast on my left foot after old age related ankle surgery.
I am watching the weather quite closely right now. Snowing like crazy now and new is forecasting 5-8 inches overnight. I'm hoping they're wrong but it doesn't look too good right now. If by chance i don't get to ride Wednesday at all I can still proudly claim 366 consecutive days.
Harald, I hope that ankle heals up and you're back out on 2 wheels soon!

Snuck in a quick 10 miles this morning BEFORE taking my truck to work. Apparently Mother Nature may not be done with Central PA after all. Snow expected to begin falling here around 8:00 am and continue through the afternoon and night into Wednesday morning. Accumulations of 5-8 inches forecast for my area. Day 366 complete and will be keeping an eye on the weather. May have to go Paul Revere one last time before Spring finally arrives.
So how's it looking? I know it would be a bummer to not continue the streak, but you'll always have the consolation of having completed a whole year in PA! Congrats on that momentous achievement!
Even though we rarely get snow here in the Seattle/Tacoma area near sea level, it does seem to hit once or twice each winter for a few days. If I lived in a development, I could probably achieve such a run. Instead I live 1/4 mile up a VERY steep private road that's heavily shaded by trees, so snow doesn't get sunshine melt (and we live in Seattle where sun is a rarity during our 9 months of winter). Even though I plow the road to speed up it's reopening, it might still be a day or two before I would even think about taking a motorcycle down it.
Currently main roads are still clear but already all area schools are closed for tomorrow. Have an alarm set for midnight and will get up and see what it looks like outside. Snow is to start again around 2 or 3 am.

I seriously debated since my "perfect year" mission was successful just how far I want to push my efforts at continuing. I'd decided when I went to bed that I'd set an alarm for midnight and if my driveway was still clear I'd get dressed and walk outside and check the conditions. Things were still really clear outside and what snow had fallen was strictly on the grass yet so i decided to go for it. I stuck to the 10 mile minimum and after posting went back to bed. There is absolutely no way I could ride when it came time to go to work. Apparently the snow began falling in quantity sometime after 3 or 4 am and it's a heavy, wet sort of snow making a total mess of things. All area schools are closed. Probably half of our employees have called off and the one truck that just made it in to drop off is now parked in our lot until tomorrow. Driver called his company and got approval to just get a room and load for his return trip tomorrow after PA gets the roads cleared up better than what we have right now. He's headed back to Baton Rouge and is obviously not used to driving in these conditions.
Day 367 is complete and provided I can sneak in a ride before midnight Thursday the streak will continue. Mother Nature is a cruel bitch.
If you ride from 11:50pm to 12:10am, do you get to count that for both days?
I hope you can continue this streak. I was at a poker game last night and some of the guys there are Harley Owners. The topic of motorcycles comes up often. I sometimes tease them of their limited riding frequency by calling them Owners and not Riders--okay, almost every time I bust their balls. LOL. Anyway to cement my point (in good natured fun) I have often touted your accomplishments as to the definition of a real RIDER. I let them know you had completed your year.
One of the newer guys to the game popped off with a comment about it not being hard to ride 365 in Tropical climates of Florida.
Another player said "No, this guy is doing this in Pennsylvania."
New Harley Guy "He must be in Southern Pennsylvania. And must be one tough SOB"
Other Harley Guy "I do not know how far south he is in Penn, but he sure is a Motorcycle Rider"
Nice to see their species evolving is what I thought!
I often have found myself when I was not looking, nor did that discovery take place where I thought it would!
Cav, This is a somewhat unofficial type of event in that it's not an IBA sanctioned ride or anything. I'm using the ground rules set up by a friend of mine who's been doing this for over 18 years. 10 miles must be ridden at some point during each calendar day. If I wanted to get back to back days like that I would need 10 miles prior to midnight and another 10 miles after in order to count both days. Last night, actually this morning I left my house at 12:06 am and rode just over 10 miles arriving back home around 12:21 am. Thursday could be a problem with the weather we're getting right no but provided I get my miles in before Thursday at midnight it counts.
I live pretty much midway between York, PA where Harley has their final assembly plant and Harrisburg, PA the state capitol. I'm just over one mile from I-83 a major north-south interstate so provided roads are clear I can hop on and off the slab easily. My actual average miles per day last year was just over 60 to give you an idea how much I actually ride.
So as I see it, now you have quite a conundrum, BC.
You've met your goal. And it was a lofty goal. An unimaginable goal for the riders here that know precisely what it takes to accomplish that goal. On the one hand, you want to continue for as long as you can, because every day adds to your record and makes your accomplishment even greater. And of course if you stop, and somehow later down the road, feel like you can do better, it will now take you a minimum of a year just to get back to where you are. And let's be frank - what are the chances that you will every have another year like this? 365 continuous days in which the weather and road conditions were (apparently) safe enough to give it a try? And now that we are in the end of March, your odds of going potentially another 6-7 months increase with every lengthening and warming day.
But on the other hand, when does the juice become less valuable than the squeeze? When does getting up at midnight to run the same boring 10 miles just to add another number to the total stop making sense? When can you stop and just take satisfaction and rejoice in your incredible accomplishment and say to yourself (and mean it) "BC, you did it. Now let's move on to something else."? Your family is really supportive to adjust their own plans and needs around your streak. They deserve a big round of applause just for that.
I suppose your 18 year and running buddy hasn't gotten there yet.
I suppose like with any personal challenge for any of us, the answer lies within. And please don't misunderstand me. I have no opinion one way or the other. I was just thinking about what it took - what it REALLY took for you to get here. And that made me think about how that could work for me. And of course it couldn't - no way no how. I was impressed at about day 45 and my impression went up from there.
I'll be checking into this thread daily, and cheering you on in spirit whatever the outcome.

On another note, I sent Big John on his way this morning, heading northwest for home. He's on fresh tires, flushed brakes/clutch, and a fresh oil change. The '13 FJR was purring like a kitten this morning, no surprise there. I gave him some decent roads in East Texas to try without costing him too much time. I'm watching his SPOT, and it would appear that he's doing just fine, as I knew he would.
We had a nice visit and with some help from the Redfishes, I did the very best I could with the limited time I had. Although he didn't starve, we just didn't have enough time to get into the real heart attack generating stuff. Meh - there will be other times.
Ride safe, John. I'll see you soon, my friend.
