Picked up my Shad SH50 topcase off of the highway. The plastic latch that "secured" the topcase to the mount broke apart. I inherited the case when buying my first used 2013. The case was 12 years old and I'm sure the plastic "locking" mechanism was getting brittle. Since I already have a secured Shad mount, I'll order the 58X expandable topcase. I've always wanted one anyway.
I've always had Givi topcases up until now. I like how the Shad models operate more. (unless it's rolling down the highway)
The Shad SH50 I had is no longer made. My guess is they had some failures with this model. The currently available Shad cases have a great reputation.
Shad and Givi, as companies, both suck balls.
That is all.

I rode it (shocker!). Ordered new shoes for mom, so took the FJR to drop them off yesterday. Beautiful weather here yesterday for an afternoon ride. It felt good - I've had time for one other ride since the "long way round" trip to SE Ohio back at the end of April - this was much needed therapy. I'm diving into EOM route review tonight.
I've got 4k on the RS4's. I want to see what max mileage will be on these for me, but I also don't want to get caught at EOM in the rain and/or dark on nearly toasted tires...

Don't worry about the tires giving out. Lots of people at EOM leave their keys in their bikes in the morning when prepping for rides. Just take one of those. Be careful, some of the rich kids have bikes that have 6 gears.

That a fantastic idea - I'll just leave black betty home, give her a break...

Actually, I'm quite impressed by the durability of the Shad case as a highway bowling ball. Jeff is being conservative here. He actually had the case fall off three times while driving home. I guess it was the tenth frame and he was picking up the spare!

But, I'm impressed because the case never opened up and yard-saled his shit all over the road! He said it also displayed a nice hook going down the road. All in all, quite the performance!

He's a slow learner. Took him 3 times to realize there was an issue

Out with the old and in with the new. I mounted new front rubber today for the trip to Baker City, Oregon. Old PR4 GT was
done with 6,300 hard miles on it. Riken Raptor car tire has 25k miles on it and after accumulating another 2,500 to 3,000 more miles on this trip to Oregon should be done upon my return
.

Rode it to work. I always forget how fantastic new rubber feels in the corners. Much smoother too withoit all the scallops on the front.

To each his own. SkooterG likes the square back tire.

That be it.
As with my first RR car tire, the tire across the whole flat part still has a bit more serviceable tread left but the edges are wearing to the point of becoming non-serviceable. My first RR only lasted 20,671 miles before the edges were gone but that particular tire saw a LOT of hard twisty riding. And I replaced it a little early when I got a BIG hole flat tire. (3 sticky strings and still a slow leak)
Still, 20.6k miles for less than $100?

Prepped for a dayride to Roan Mtn and Snake, out and back so I get to do them both ways. Lets see how much a 15 month layoff has ruined me.
Just under 400 miles, so not too much...but my body will tell me the truth at the end of the day.

Installed saddle bags and trunk and packed for Why-Not. Had to rethink my packing though. Been riding Tenere on last several trips and got used to the cavernous cargo capacity available...
Roll out early tomorrow morning for some in-route fun in the box!
