CycleTrader is about the only way.

I'll give it until about the first week in February. Since there is a 2025 FJR on Yamaha Canada site, I see that as a good sign. Right??

What I find interesting as well, at this point there is nothing over 1000cc on the USA site.

You do know the FJR is discontinued in the USA. No 2025.

Check with your border folks. It's a pretty EZ process. You will have to pay taxes.... do it now and your USD is worth $1.45 CAD. The only thing I'd check is if the bike has to be used... but then I'd also say why buy a new bike like that......

Recently reading about guys buying '23 models for good deals (in the US). How come so many available is my first question, unsold bikes, was 2023 a bad year for sales? Might be better off getting one of those instead.

Would an american buyer have to pay Canadian sales tax AND sales tax for the State of residence when trying to register the bike?

Why would you go to Canada to get a 2025 FJR? There are no significant changes to the bike since what 2016? Guarantee you can find 23 and 24 models here. Or buy a lightly used one after someone else takes the depreciation hit. I've not seen that they hold value very well.

Sadly I don't ride my 22 enough to be in the market for a 25, even if they sold them in the US.

The buyer no matter who, of the new bike will have to pay the sales tax (13% here), and whatever taxes you pay there to register the bike.

Agree I would buy a lightly used one there two or three years old..... there are many used low milers of all ages as I keep seeing in the other sandbox.

We used to go to Toronto for weekend getaways, my wife would shop, and when we left we'd get a form to send in to get the sales tax for purchases reimbursed. Not sure if that is still a thing, but it sure was nice back then.

I don't think it's as simple as buying a Canadian bike, hauling it across the border and paying the taxes. There are import fees that and plenty of other paperwork that would have to be submitted, and all fees for each things addressed. Normally done by an import broker type person.

I've bought equipment from over seas and it certainly wasn't as simple as ordering it and it showed up. A broker handled it all.

There was a guy on FB that was in the USA and he wanted the 20th anniversary edition. He posted about it online. He went through the process and said it was expensive and a pain, and took quite some time to do it all. He got in a bind and tried to sell it on FB and wanted $40,000 for it, since it was "the only one in the USA". He thought all the extra time and money he spent should be recovered. He was roasted online and dropped the price, and I think he ended up keeping it.

Depends what you are importing.... AFAIK, there's no "duty" on vehicles due to the free trade agreement on vehicles... however, best check your border people's website for details.....

If I am importing a (used) US bike from an individual (state taxes were paid at time of his/her purchase), it's quite simple. I notify border people through a RIV procedure submit paperwork 72 hrs. in advance. Pay a $175 fee, and once they verify the VIN, off I go. Then I have to get a safety certificate here from a mechanic, take that to my MOT office, transfer the ownership to me and pay provincial taxes (13%).

Not a lot of sense me importing a US bike now due to high exchange rate and high used bike prices. If going the other way from here to there, I'd shop a good used bike from a private individual as the provincial taxes were already paid. Note, if the bike you want was never released in your country, you very most likely cannot import it. Same here.

It's a lot more than just paying the right tax/fee. Just having to deal with multiple badge-wearing agencies, I can easily see getting caught in the middle with no way out, and the meter running.

I can't imagine any scenerio whereby one would go through this in an effort to save money using the exchange rate.
