There's blue sky just above the fog. I'll wait just a little bit for it to burn off.
Then, we ride.
Stay thirsty, my friends....

Warmed up enough to get in the garage and change the coolant. After 6 years it was time!

'08 rear wheel, garald rack... those stupid tabs where the bags go, I even have a valve cover gasket... I'm in Surprise now ya douche. Just because I don't want to hear your faceboook political commentary doesn't mean we can't hang out.

Why wouldn't you remove the forks at home, instead of working in the parking lot? Somebody might jump on and wheelie that bitch off while your inside and not paying attention.

Timing.
For as yet to be revealed reasons, I had a two-day window to get the forks serviced. Or would not have had time to service them at all. A less than ideal solution for upcoming adventure. This worked. Monday I got to ride out to Torrance, CA, to stay with a renown scoundrel and tosser. At his abode, he plied me with high $$$$ scotch so he could later kick my ass at the billiards table. Sneaky bastard. This morning, while slightly hungover I was at RaceTech upon their opening in Corona, CA. A short few hours later I was on my way home with freshly serviced forks. This fed my need for immediate gratification and played well into my ADD. And it was a nice 810 mile round-trip road trip.

Jackwagon!
For the record, I have *NEVER* posted anything political on my FB page. And the times I respond to others' political posts is relatively few and far between.
Surprise? Surprise? Really? That's where all the lepers and other degenerates live. Oh, wait.......
Yeah, you can come over and help me wash some of my FJRs while I supervise.

So....on yesterday's ride, we left with the fog still pretty thick, and as I got to the back country, swampy stuff, it got thicker - when visibility dropped to about 100 yards, I pulled over. 20-ish minutes later, it was burning off and we mosied to the levee.
I turned north on the levee, switch the suspension to "hard", and ran her up to about 100 for 15-ish miles of uninterupted, shear bliss. ZERO side roads or driveways to be concerned with. Visibility ahead and in all directions for at least a mile. Good clean familiar pavement underneath me. The FJR is made for that - windscreen up about 1/2 way, legs, torso, and head perfectly tucked into the aerodynamic bubble. Motor working, but eating the fuel with pleasure and singing the exhaust song joyfully. Tires perfectly balanced without so much as a side fart of vibration. I get to any curve marked between 35 and 45 mph and ignore it with malice. I know those curves like the back of my hand. I release the throttle slightly, and let the motor's compression bring me down to something with an "8" as the first digit, push the inside bar a little, bring my head toward the inside mirror ever so slightly, and after the apex, I release the reins, give her the heat, and let her eat.
We got to the end of the swamp like greased lightening and, thankfully not arrested, we slowed it down to enjoy the rest of the route.
It was a terrific ride yesterday.

I removed the OEM hand guards from my new Suzuki DL800 and replaced them with Barkbusters and associated hand guards/wind deflectors. I remembered that Suzuki hand guards were a "thing" on the FJR, I think I had a set on my '13. It only took a little bit of fiddling and McGyvering to get these to fit. Bar end handlebar weights are at a machinist friends to have the appropriate grooves machined in to accept the Suzuki end.

Interesting. The ones for the GS come with the appropriate spacers and washers to bolt right up. Not so for the Zuke?

I removed the Ohlins and boxed it up. Sending it out to get serviced. I have 24,000 miles on it. It was a little more difficult on this AE to get the shock out, but it only took 2 1/2 hours. Lol.

McGyvering was required on the Suzuki handguards I installed on the FJR, the Barkbusters fit on to the DL800 just fine. The FJR has no mirror mount on the brake cylinder and the Suzuki Guards use that as an inner attachment point. I used an aluminum Ram Ball Brake Cylinder mount with the appropriate slots and spacing. I ground off the Ram Ball and then made the remaining aluminum round, threaded it 10MMx1.50 pitch and used an aluminum spacer, and a Stainless Steel nut and washer to affix the handguard to the brake master cylinder.
