We all ought to show up on Fubar's door at EOM. We'll adopt an HD rider to go in first and tell him to ignore the 'range' sign at the end of his driveway.

I went over to griff's place and we cleaned up the rear brake piston and checked the brake pedal and lubed that up a little bit.
I feel better about the rear brake now, but the rotor still seems pretty warm after riding. I'm not gonna worry about it after seeing that nothing is hanging up. Because of this, I am likely for a ride next Sat/Sun over in NGA/NC if the weather is halfway decent.

Just got off the phone with Pants and ^^^^^ This is good news.

Got the sport rack from Garauld today. This is going to be perfect for what I want, and what beautiful workmanship too!
Garauld is a pleasure to work with, ultra quick shipping and well packaged. I wouldn't hesitate one bit to order from him again. JSNS

Removed my front tire this morning in exactly 4 minutes and 10 seconds, dressed for work. New PR4GT mounted and balanced.
Stopped at my favorite liquor store for a little shampoo bottle ammo. Oh yeah, I'm getting stoked about next week.
The red beast is ready for an adventure. Hang in there, baby. Just a few more days to wait.....

I was driving the 4x4 on the freeway late one night, when a bike came zipping past. I had to look twice at the rear wheel light show, but what I was seeing was a normal strong bike, with the rear brake disk glowing bright red. I caught up to the bike, honking and waving, and pointing at his rear wheel. The guy stopped to investigate. His rear disk was still cherry-red, but he was okay, and I could not buck the traffic around us to stop with him.
When a disk gets hot, the brake fluid can begin to boil, which adds more pressure to the system, and may even lock the brake. If the seals fail due to heat, a brake fire may happen, too. The first thing a rider will know will be an unexpected "loss of power," but the engine may be able to "power through" the drag for a few moments. All free-play in the brake lever will vanish, and the lever itself will feel like it is welded, not moveable. If you pull the clutch, it will feel like you hit the brakes, and all of this is very serious stuff. Get off the road immediately, not in a minute or so, and let things cool off. Once the brake cools, you can probably still travel in short, slow runs, but any gravel will be hazardous, once the heat builds again.
Make a quick ride, entirely without using the brake that gets hot. If it gets hot anyway, then you have a brake problem, and it can quickly become serious. Give it the TLC it needs. You might "fix" the problem by loosening the caliper bolts, applying and holding the brake lever, and tightening the caliper bolts while that brake is applied hard. Beyond that, there may be a problem with the caliper mount, or the caliper seals. There may be a reason that the brake caliper does not shift to the correct position when the brake is released, or the caliper seals may have become hard, so now the brake pads do not retract as they should. Keep checking on that brake, and do not believe that it will somehow fix itself. Serious stuff, my friend.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I'll keep an eye on it...but the piston was clean and easily compressed by hand with no sense of sticking. The pedal was not sticking, but we took that apart and lubed that as well, with all the smooth action easily reversed by the spring action.
I am aware of the consequences...that's why I aborted a 400 mile solo ride into the mountains on an absolutely gorgeous early spring day to get it checked out further.
I will keep an eye on it at breaks during the day ride next weekend...

What did they find, while they had you bent over? That last $20 hiding next to the three Benjamins?

Walked past it, and saddled up Kelly's FZ-07 for 200 miles. After I stopped feeling like I was on a minibike, it was a bucket of smiles. Sassy exhaust on a little in-line twin with gobs of torque.
Smiled at the FJR upon return and assured her she's still my main squeeze.

When we move to the mountains after we retire, I'm buying a smaller street bike for day trips. The FZ-07 is on the short list right now.

One of the most underrated bikes ever. If I was in the market for a 'city' bike that would run the highway, it'd get the nod. I've only ever ridden a handful of bikes that felt 'happy'.

I had a slow leak in the front for months. It was the rubber washer on my t-stem. I got the guy at my Indy shop to put a new one on during my tire change to RSIII’s. All good.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I'm pretty sure this set of 90 degree valve stem's went on the bike back in 2012, so at 5 1/2 - 6 years old, I can't complain about one developing a leak. I'm glad I found it now, in the garage, and not out on the road this summer...
