Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I can testify to that Wheatie!!
This morning, I rode my FJR 75 miles to see the redfish. I'm pleased to report first hand that Pops is doing well. He's getting stronger each day and his flexibility and mobility is increasing as well. Perhaps more importantly, his attitude and general demeanor about things is just as great as it always was. It was quite nice to see him and talk to him.
We spread the maps on the table and talked YFO. I think it's going to happen. 3 Louisiana boys heading west!!
The ride home was very wet as the weather forecasters were not joking. I tested my new Alpinestars Drystar waterproof gloves. Those puppies are excellent and are absolutely waterproof. OTOH - my mesh jacket and pants are not so waterproof!!
Stay thirsty, my friends!!!

Put one of these Givi's on today. I figure the extra 16 liters will come in handy sometime. Do y'all think it makes my butt look too big??

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Since Photobucket is blocked at work I cannot see the Givi pics. It will have to wait until I get home in the morning.
I snapped the Givi V47 onto the FJR and passed by the grocery store on my way to work this evening. Even after dealing with an FJR since '07 and all my time with these bikes I am still in awe of their complete goodness. The versatility, the usability, the smoothness, the power, and even the beauty of these bikes amazes me. Of course the transition from the BMW may influence my thoughts.
This was my first actual ride with the SW Motech mirror extenders. I had forgotten they were there (working nights!
) and I realized how good they were working when I found them not pointing where they needed to be. Turns out I was so conditioned to moving my body to see behind me that over time I had adjusted my mirrors for that. The new position works without me moving.

All this to get to one bolt.

Technically I needed to remove two bolts. Actually four. But three of them could be accessed without removing anything. It was bolt number four that's the beeyotch.
Yes, Ms. Penske puked her guts out and became a pogo stick, so she's off to the spa for some R&R and should be ready for action when she gets back.

That conditioning is what made me finally change mirrors. I had blind spot mirrors on my OEM mirrors and argued they were fine. All I had to do was tuck my elbow in and I could see behind me. That was all well and fine, until one day, my daughters and I were riding our bicycles on a trail. I went to look for my daughter behind me, and due to habit, I tucked my elbow in.
I realized that was stupid and decided to buy new, acceptable mirrors. Haha...

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Rode it into the reserve (count UP mode) for 22 miles. Switched it back to the regular odometer as I pulled up to the gas pump, and still had 7 miles of range.
Next time I'll push it to 30 miles on the count-up reserve. Trying to get some repeatable data points here.

So are we. But it would be helpful if you would include other important data points like perhaps HOW MANY GALLONS of fuel it took to fill the tank at that point.Uncle Hud wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2017 10:22 am Rode it into the reserve (count UP mode) for 22 miles. Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
But Mr Redfish, all of us ride differently! That means we get a different number of miles out of our tanks, we hit 'reserve' at different points, and we push different distances into that reserve.
Further, I'll bet it matters if you fill up on the side stand or the center stand, and if you squeeze in another pint after the gas pump has automatically shut off.
So ..... what I get on reserve isn't going to be what you get on reserve. (Also, I'm pretty sure I put in 4.7 gallons.)

So, how many miles did you get out the Penske, and did you have a sock on it? Sure would like to know!gixxerjasen wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2017 9:06 pm All this to get to one bolt.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Honsestly, tough to say. I picked it up used and put it right on the bike. Previous owner says it didn't have many miles on it but he also wasn't riding the FJR so much there in the end so it sat a lot, which can have an effect on seals. I'm rebuilding a dirt bike that sat too long and all the seals were puking.
I've had it on for a little over a year now, so I think this rebuild was sooner than I expected. I'd planned on doing it preventatively after this summer but my choice was made for me on this one. I should have recorded the mileage when I installed it but I seem to have failed to do so. I'll record it when I put it back on though.
Sorry I don't have more info than that, really not helpful I guess. I do have to say, at the price I got it for, it was a better deal than a stock one, and this one can be rebuilt, so it was definitely worth it.
Oh, and yes, I had the sock on it and it was pretty clean under there.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
I've gotten 40 miles on reserve...still only put in 6 gallons.
Edit: today, put the last bit on the bike after installing 2 tyres...filled up the tank. With out of town relatives coming into town, out of town square dance festivals with Louanne, and tyre replacement...it seems like weeks since I've been on the byke. It felt weird...like we weren't one any more...like I have to get back into what it means to ride an FJR. Weird.

Changed the oil/filter and pumpkin loob. Then took it for a 90 minute ride to scrub the tires in that I put on last weekend. I've got some odds and ends maint wise to take care of. But nothing that can't wait until after SEO
