Finished installing my clutch master cylinder from an '89 ZX7:

Basically the detached reservoir version of the same Nissin 14mm CMC that came with the FJR stock. I tried one off a newer H2 but the clutch switch mount didn't fit ours and I didn't want to mess with trying to rig it up.

I've broken one of those forward posts twice. Both times I just trimmed the mating edge a little then superglued it back in place THEN fill the whole thing with runny JB Weld. The raised edge section keeps the JB in place while it sets. I just set everything up in advance with a little tilt, etc.
That works.... or you can use stiffer Permatex plastic epoxy and build up a pin from scratch... file, sand, etc. later to suit. Also use a little silicone or dielectric grease in the grommets.... reduces the effort to get the pins in and out.

In support of our IBR riding members I rode mine to work, in the rain, in heavy fog. If they can do it so can I.

Rode right by that a couple hours ago. It was late in the day and after 330 miles and a 45 minute stop while we repaired my riding partner's flat tire it was just get to the hotel and chill out time. Boo hoo. I'm sure I will regret it later.

Well Greg check out some photos online and be happy. I used to ride from Seattle area to Palouse Fall and camp out. Now the camping area is closed. I never thought it was that spectacular until I learned how it was formed but that is available online well. The geology story there is interesting.

Coming from Starbuck one of the sights I always enjoyed is the Joso High Bridge. It's a railway trestle. The the Rd in to the falls there is a bridge over a cut for the tracks that is fairly deep cut right thru the rock, must have been a lot of work. The falls are ok makes a nice pit stop.

Today Scott and I met Mike and Laura (WNYFJR) at breakfast and then took them for a ride down through Spearfish Canyon, up to Sundance, to Warren Peak, to Devils Tower, Hulett WY, Alzada MT (where the Stoneville Saloon was closed and had a big For Sale sign out front, returned to Hulett for lunch at more than FJR Nominal. Then dodged rain showers and thunderstorms on our way back to Belle Fourche and to Spearfish. We then went to visit Alex at BH Moto where Mike and Laura both purchased new helmets.

It was a 210 mile day, I'd forgotten how much fun it is to ride an FJR. During our day we passed several Harley's, tested our tire balance at speed, and chatted continuously on our Cardo Mesh network. It was nice to meet Mike and Laura, though I think I recognize Mike from EOM last year.

Changed the Oil & Filter, changed rear drive lube, lubed brake and clutch lever, flushed and bled brakes, blew out air filter, lubed side and center stands. 105,000 miles and still going strong.

Met Scott H. at Sturgis Motorsports at 0900. We rode Vanocker Canyon, Nemo Road, a few local roads to Keystone, 244 to 385, 87 to Custer, 16 to Newcastle, 85 to Cheyenne Crossing ( only had to pass 3 cars between Newcastle and Cheyenne Crossing), Spearfish Canyon to home. 210 miles on a beautiful day, high 70's, ☀️ 😎! Brakes on the FJR are now much better after bleeding. My set of $211 Continental tires are working fine.

I rode my FJR 335 smiles yesterday. My route abreviated.

Image

At CFR Panman asked me if I had been to Onion Creek. We found it on Google Maps and no I hadn't been there. Tip of the cap to Panman.

I took the FJR because the seat on the Triumph is ok for 200-250 or less. Looking for some more room for my hips I raised seat on the FJR.

Silly me created a route on Basecamp but forgot to put the route on the GPS so I had to stop and create a route on the fly in North Spokane. This worked just fine.

It was a perfect day for a ride with temps in between 65-82 all day long.

Image

Nice day for photos.

Image

Davis Lake along Hwy 211. Notice the house to the right.

Image

Along the Westside Calispel road, as it travels on the westside of Calispel Lake. Creative.

Image

Image

After riding the Flowery Trail road and going by 49° North Ski Area I stopped in Chewelah at Monica's Buttermilk Kitchen for lunch. I order a Pepsi and the waitress brought a menu. It was a breakfast only joint. Oh well I ordered breakfast sandwich and it was good. The waitress was grumpy had expectations about something but was not in a position of authority. This place is usually crowded and I had always wanted to stop here. Next time I will try the coffee shop across the street.

Off to Onion Creek Washington on some fine pavement. Sic...

Image

Image

The rocks in the upper right of the photo tell me I am no longer in the lava basalts of Spokane.

Image

The Onion Creek road went to gravel for 3 miles, there was no oil.

Image

A bucolic scene.

Image

At 250 miles my butt was sore. Raising the seat didn't work out as the wing's on the Russell saddle lifted into my thighs. At the start of the ride I was leaning on getting a Russell for my Triumph. Now I am not so sure as the Triumph has a lot of seat to foot peg space and I am thinking a Russell saddle will press on my thighs. I am thinking Russell saddles were designed back in the '80s for motorcycles with less leg room than today's adventure bikes.

Along the Le Clerc road.

It was a good day to be on the FJR.
