I read the post starting with the gaiters not working then boots in the shitter. My thought was those boots are leaking and will fail the test. 42°, rain and leaky boots makes it a bad day. Good to know a nearby BMW dealer has some quality boots. Hope the weather gives you guys a break soon.

New boots, dry feet, old boots headed to Winnipeg for refund. I packed them up wet so there will be no doubt.

That section from Quebec City to Rivière-du-Loup and beyond can be really cold and nasty when the wind is off the St. Lawrence.

Re: Cape North - across Canada 2025
Saturday 24 May 2025 - St Simeon to Quebec City on QC 138 for Boots then across the Saint Lawrence by bridge and East on QC 132 to Riviere-du-Loup for the evening. 425 KM/8 hours plus boot shopping time.

749 Meters in elevation

Believe me when I tell you it was a wet and cold ride to Quebec City on 138!
Our St Simeon hotel was excellent,

the woman that owns the place took pity on us and drove us too and from the only restaurant in town at no charge. She prepared a continental breakfast to die for including a fresh almond croissant, apple turnovers, fresh baked muffins, yogurt parfaits, coffee, orange juice, and a selection of cheese.
It was about a two hour ride to QC from St Simeon. We arrived at MotoVanier Quebec at 1030, had the boots in hand by 1100, I mailed the old wet boots to the dealer in Winnipeg who confirmed refunding the purchase price upon receipt, we were back on the road in the rain by 1145.
We rode in rain showers and a steady NE wind East along the South side of the St Lawrence on QC 132 stopping once for pictures at a St Lawrence viewpoint where locals were parked watching the waves crash over the pier.
I took my picture from my bike

JREW walked out on the pier to get his photos.

Temps had dropped into the low 40's when as approached Riviere-du-Loup and the wind was relentless. I called quit and we found a motel with a restraunt next door for the evening.
Tomorrow we strike out for Gaspe, riding 132 all the way.
Lobster in our future!

I got cold just reading this post. Hell of a bad time to encounter new boot failure. Bad enough to ride in cold, rain, and wind, but, with wet feet is just horrific.

Re: Cape North - across Canada 2025
Just west of Forilon National Park but before Gaspe was a tiny little restaurant built into the back of a house. It was called the Blu Baylene (the blue whale). Line and I were referred there for a good local place to eat by no less than 3 Park rangers. They stated this was the go-to place for celebrations.
I almost kept on going. But you drive up the hill around the back and sure enough there's a restaurant.
It would have a hard time seating 8 people.
Line ordered the platter for $20. She started to laugh when she saw how much food was piled onto it.
"The best seafood I've ever had!". She talks about it to this day.
If it's no longer there, don't fret, you can get a genuine lobster roll at MacDonald's in Nova Scotia.

Re: Cape North - across Canada 2025
I would agree, in general. But even in mid-summer, you can get cool, drizzly, foggy, blustery days in coastal regions in eastern Canada. Conditions can turn around overnight with a shift in wind direction. Much less of an issue sometimes just a few kilometers inland, but the North Atlantic Ocean and the St. Lawrence River can have a profound effect; especially during the shoulder seasons. Much the same with Lake Superior.
In Newfoundland, they refer to conditions as "RDF" - Rain, Drizzle and Fog.
