Recall on a 2019

Post by justacrossthehill »

Just inquired about a 2019 for sale and the guy said his VIN wasn't included in the transmission recall.
That isn't the way I understood that, could he be correct? BTW, he didn't offer to let me check for myself.

He didn't provide the VIN so that I could check. Wasn't all production included up to the cut off date?

Yeah. I would check it out for sure. I haven't heard of many (or maybe any) that were not included. Especially in the middle of the recall date range.

The recall included 2016-2020, some late 2020's may have had the new tranny. The 2021's all had the new trannies.
You'd have to run the VIN...... maybe he meant the recall was completed........

It does not make sense for the seller to withhold the VIN if he is honestly trying to sell.

My wife asked me why I speak so softly around the house. I said that I was worried that someone was listening. She laughed, I laughed, Alexa laughed.

The guy told me his VIN wasn't included in the recall and I haven't responded back. That's usually what I do when I suspect that I'm being lied to. Here's the listing.

I suggest dropping this bike off the list of want to buy. The seller is not honest. Of course if the bike is very desirable for some reason you could buy the bike then get the recall work done if this bike is "The One". With 5100 miles meticulously cared for means the oil was changed twice - big deal.

Totally agree. Honesty, or lack thereof is a deal maker or breaker for me.

I guess everyone works off their small sample size with regards to dealers. I had bad luck with the brake switch recall on my 2013. Had bad luck with one of my valve checks.
Personally, I would not buy a bike that the transmission recall was done by a dealer.
Probably not a popular opinion, but just my thoughts. Your mileage may vary.

The transmission recall includes all models 2016 through February 2020. The recall is transferable, so you could get it done yourself after you buy it.

I wouldn't classify that as a "steal of a deal", but the asking price is fair. If this is the bike for you, I wouldn't let the seller's misunderstanding steer you away from it. Jim is correct, at 5K miles, it really can't be abused with respect to maintenance.
