Aftermarket wave rotors

Post by dcarver »

KrZy8, 247k miles, stock rotors.. hard to believe, but they are under minimal width.

Going to put 2013 rotors on KrZy8 from Naomi.

New wave rotors on Naomi.

I just ordered a set of ebay chinese specials. I've had them on the Bandit for a couple yaars now with no problem. I have 81,000 on my 05 and the 1st time i hit the front brakes there are 2 distinct clicks/clunks. Pretty sure it's the rivets holding the rotors wearing out.
Do I really need to put something here?? Why don't you guys just think of something witty instead...........

Educate me! Why are "wave rotors" preferred? I think they are supposed to cool faster under extreme braking conditions but unless you are on a track, is there any need? I have never experienced brake fade due to overheating on my FJR and can't improve much on being able to invoke ABS with a two finger pull on dry pavement.

As long as there is a good reason!
The regular kind seem to stop me well enough and aren't close to worn out.
Can't see them when I'm riding anyway.

Bling! Solid stainless Chinese rotors with waves and slots.... had a coupla sets, wear well and stop ya good, seem to dissipate heat well. Can't see spending the big bucks on Galfer/EBC.

What ~G said.

Though I do think the braided brake lines made a bigger difference than the galfer's.

No experience with braided lines on an FJR but I found that the full set I put on my Yamaha Venture a number of years ago made absolutely no discernable difference in braking efficacy. They did look nice...

@ 317,000 kms my front rotors are below spec. I have a set of OE Yamaha ordered. Have had braided lines since 2009 and 170,000 kms. I have the fluids changed every two years no matter how many kms on them.

I’ve got a warped front rotor due to an incompetent mechanic. What did those stock rotors set you back?

I'm at the low thickness limit with 117000 miles on all the rotors. Not sure how much longer to wait or what rotors to buy.

When the pistons pop out of the caliper you will know it's time to replace the rotors

Once you decide what kind of rotors to buy, it will be time to replace them. What brake pads have you been running that have thinned your rotors at such a young age?
