Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Left early this morning packed for adventure. Managed about 300 miles by myself through southern Mississippi. Stopped often for some history some geography, and some respite. Camping at Natchez State Park, one of my “local” favorites.
Enjoying the solitude. More riding toMorrow. Stay thirsty, my friends ....

Another 275 wonderful miles today By myself through central Mississippi and Louisiana. I hit the back roads near Vicksburg that I know well. Enjoyed ripping it to some great blues music like Booker T, Muddy Waters, and evening some SRV. Now back at camp witH a low fire sipping on the last of the shampoo.
I’ll take the long way home tomorrow. Life is good, my friends.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Yesterday I rode it over to Natehawk's house to chase a current draw... we never found it. We measured a very minor amp draw, about what I would expect the ECU to pull. He had the negative cable off for about two weeks and the Shorai was still at 13.09 volts. We de-whiskered a couple of connections where the supply wires to his fuseblock were too large for the terminals but really found nothing substantial. As usual I went on a wild goose chase following voltage that made no sense because...well because I was/am stupid.
Basically I wasted a bunch of Nate's time. Since I failed to find anything wrong with his bike he got mad and made his dog bite me. At least I rode the FJR far enough that I had to put gas in it. I cannot remember the last time I did that.

So, you didn't ride it to work, but you rode it, to work. Your ride reports suck lately!Redfish wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 9:40 am Yesterday I rode it over to Natehawk's house to chase a current draw... we never found it. 300 miles today wiggling home through central Louisiana. Temperature was mild and it felt good riding under some high clouds all day.
About 900 miles for the 3 days. Good ride.

Re: What did you do to your FJR today?
Yeah you did. But there was never anything wrong with the damn trailer. Made it almost impossible to find a problem where there wasn't one. The folks that built the trailer couldn't find a problem either.
And THEN Poolboy remembered he had re-wired the bike. I still think Hppants paid him to keep my busy so I wouldn't ruin the Good Time everyone else was having.

Hilarious. For Nate's sake, I hope you brought Pop so Nate could have some pleasant intelligent conversation while the idiot was distracted. I know I had good conversation with Pop while you worked on that trailer.Redfish wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 10:35 pmYeah you did. But there was never anything wrong with the damn trailer. As far as the Dog I'm truely sorry about that. She's a rescue that we've had for about 6 months. She spent most of her life locked in a cage until we got her She's shown signs of abuse and is very apprehensive around men and she doesn't like surprises or new people. Most the time she just barks a lot at new people.
After Redfish left I ordered new tires for an upcoming ride in a few weeks. I went with Roadsmart 3's again because its hard to beat the price.

If I go in someone else's yard and their dog is protective, I understand. If a dog comes into my yard to bite me... that is another story.
I intend to go by Pop's soon and check his resting and charging voltage on his '14 FJR. I am thinking the differences in charging voltage have more to do with the battery than with the bike.

Seems there's always a lot of the same folks running around at all the FJR meets. Looking at the attendees, I'm starting to think that it IS contagious.

Washed all the filth off from the rainy ride to EOM. Removed and cleaned up the contacts on the gear indicator sender. Fifth gear was dropping in and out on the ride back. Also, installed my SuperBright H4 LED headlights. Not too bad a job.

Checked my rear T31 GT. Installed Jan 9,2020. 4,821 miles later, and it is toast. Ordered an Angel GT A-spec. I will remove the wheel myself and have tire mounted. Good time to do driveshaft splines and u-joint.

The gear indicator/neutral switch..... It's above the shifter linkage, two screws in an oval black housing with wire harness coming out of it, that heads to the rear of the engine. Brass plunger spring loaded, makes contact with several other contacts. Has an o-ring. Pull it out and clean out the oily residue (it is engine oil). I'd hesitate to use any harsh abrasive, no need, just clean up well and put 'er back together. Someday down the road you may need to do it again, but EZPZ.
