Rode the North Georgia mountains today with a couple of buddies. I was geared up properly for the cool weather, but my hands stayed cold all day. Wierd day, no destinations to go to. We ended up at Bell Mountain,which was closed. Ended up pulling off just short of the closed gate and ate our packed lunches. Was nice to get out on the bikes. The three of us enjoyed talking from a safe distance and hanging out. Interesting notice posted at Two Wheels Only in Suches.

65F at lunchtime. Gassed her up for the first time since January, then rode to the next town over and got the inspection completed at the car oil change place. Love that they do motorcycle inspections so I don't have to deal with the dimwits at the motorcycle dealerships. Oil change guys said it's been dead, like 5-6 cars per day. As such, there were two guys ready to jump and listen to my horn, look at my lights, enter stuff in the computer, charge me 7 bucks and send me on my way as quickly as possible. Nice ride back home, if a bit windy, but I'll take what I can get. Now to pay the state for the privilege of their pavement.

Rode mine to work again today. Chilly on the way in, I had to use the heated liner a little bit. Snow flurries around 9-10 am but nothing hit the ground. Looked funny seeing my bike in the parking lot with snow falling. Now that it's almost quitting time the sun is out.

Jasen, I WISH PA state inspection was only $7! Costs me closer to $25 each year to have someone else tell me I'm properly maintaining my own stuff. PA also has the highest gas tax per gallon in the nation and our roads suck.

It's closer to $25 for cars and trucks if you live in an area that requires emissions testing. But it's only $7 for motorcycles.

Oh, cars are even worse here! My F-150 runs close to $75 per year for sate inspection and emissions test.

Inspection fees in NH aren't regulated, there is a base cost but any certified inspection station can charge what they want. Motorcycle inspections usually run $15 to $20. Cars can be as little as $20 but the average is in the $35 to $55 range.

Honestly, here in the land of Live Free or Die I actually think vehicle inspections is a great idea because the people aren't good at self policing. Until a few years ago the NH auto inspections were toothless, letting some serious POS vehicles stay on the road years after they became a dangerous safety risk. Now, inspection information from both the safety and emission inspections are entered into a computer system and electronically transferred to the DMV. After the DMV sees a passing OBD II scan linked to the VIN and a passing mechanical inspection the state prints the inspection sticker through a printer at the inspection station.

My only complaint is that the NH DMV can't read the VIN from my Australian Holden car, my car's inspection report prints: 10,000 lb heavy duty Chevrolet pickup truck.

We used to be able to get the inspection stickers at the place of inspection. I hated that. I'm selectively OCD about certain things. Stickers stuck to the inside of my windshield that are crooked will drive me crazy for an entire year. I'd have to beg and plead with them to let me put the sticker in myself with them watching. Now, it goes into the system. If your inspection isn't in, you can't renew your tag. If your sticker for your tag is current then your inspection is current. Much better system I think, though it took almost a full year for them to get the kinks worked out of it when they first put it into place.

We have no inspections anymore. FLDOT does patrol and pull over commercial vehicles. But private vehicles are largely left alone. Only certain violation get you pulled over. Window tint being the main one cause it puts officers in danger.
It's crazy to see some of the vehicles on the road from modded out trucks to cars that should have been junked years ago.

Washed my '17 FJR. Planted some plants with my wife but this s/b in the good news thread. It was a nice day today.
Searching for roads paved with Asphalt, unless I am riding the mighty DR650 bushpig.

Loved the Suches sign so much I had to make one of my own with a few changes. Lots of truth to this list plus what better way to enjoy life than motorcycling during this crazy time. My favorite is "I can ride all day and never touch anything except the gas pump and I have my motorcycle gloves on" Complete and total distancing from the "Hidden Enemy" I am grateful everyday that I have such a tremendous outlet to enjoy.

Today, rode it a little over 400 miles of pure, unadulterated, tire shredding. The way my riding has been over the past month or so, this set of tires never had a fair chance....

Installed my stock shock in my 09. Packed up my Penske shock in a box to shipped it for a rebuild. Added some vinyl film on my '17. Tomorrow I ride.

Well actually yesterday now but anyway....installed all new padding in my Neotec. Made it like brand new again! Tide me over till I figure out the next helmet choice. I really like the Neotec! Now for the bike...rode it to the Lawnmower store for oil and filter for the ZT, then rode it to motorcycle store in the next county for oil and filter for the bike. Sposed to be a crappy day tomorrow/today so I'll probably change the oil.

It isn’t dented anywhere, and it’s carefully maintained, but this one shows every bit of the 40,000 plus miles I’ve put in so far. Acquiring quite the patina, this one is.

My wonderful wife of 28 years used to ride with me all the time starting back before we were even married, first on my candy apple red 76 Honda CB 750, then on my 91 CBR1000, and eventually 2 GL1800 Goldwings. She always loved to ride until I took her on a 2500 mile 10 day trip from VA to the Smokies, Gap etc. in 2008. It was a blistering week of heat and humidity and close to 100 degrees when we left for 10 days with another couple. That trip beat her up terribly, so bad so that she swore that would be her last ride on a motorcycle and it was. If the relentless thunderstorms with torrential rain and the exhausting miles were not enough, she also threw her back out along the way and rode much of that trip in bad pain even on the cushy seat of the Wing.

Over the last 12 years I took many long trips with friends and she was always supportive of it. Never once over those years did she show any desire to go out for even a short ride. Well along comes my FJR and all of a sudden she says she wants to give it a try again. The first ride was very short and I had hoped the V47 Givi would give her back support but she never felt comfortable. So I bought the backrest for the Givi and also a Cardo unit so we could talk etc. and hoped for the best.

Yesterday we took a 125 mile loop ride to Chimney Rock Lake Lure etc. and had a great lunch by the water. Just a fantastic day for many reasons, first that she was riding again, and secondly the backrest really made a huge difference in comfort and her feeling of security. The Cardo was the icing on the cake as it was great to be able to communicate.

I was very impressed with how the FJR performed with a passenger. Ironically the Wing which is supposed to be the ultimate passenger touring bike actually at times felt too heavy, almost unsafe 2 up especially in the twisties and hilly terrain. Can't beat it on the Super Slab but man she's a beast with a passenger at times. The FJR handling was great 2 up and comfortable enough that now I am looking forward to many rides with her over time. I promise you there will never be a 10 day trip on it :shock: but some nice weekend get away's possibly and day rides like yesterdays. Pretty exciting for me and thought I would share the story. Oh and some of the photos I made from the small Session GoPro I put on top of her helmet for a short time created some pretty good shots as well.

Finally got on the FJR after a few weeks of not riding. Moved the bikes, had the flu (not covid19). Today was the day. It's getting hot. Most scenic spots are closed but nice to get out.

Bill Lumberg might recognize the place in the first picture.

I road it about 250 north of Spokane on some very good back roads. Today I experimented with the ES and found the recommend setting, aka one person, one person with luggage, two persons, was about right. I started with a two person set up. I was solo today. The bike felt similar to my 09 which as a GP Suspension setup and a Penski rear shock with a 850 lb spring. I reduced the pre-load to one person and noticed suspension did a better job of absorbing the bumps of which there are a few on Spokane back roads. The '17 are still shod with Pirelli Angel GT spec A's and they seem a bit stiff similar to Dunlop RS 3's.

It was a good day to be on the FJR.
