Lovingly admiring my new battery, currently chilling with a big mug of coffee telling it about all the places I hope to take it in the next few years.

Spent the day following Pathfinder Duane on some awesome roads. Rode over 350 miles. Got some gravel in, rode over some ice. Saw ice fog at the top of Roan Mountain.

Front tire stepped out on 80, enough for me to say "whoa!" into the comms, the back tire did a little as well at a different spot. Enjoyed awesome sunshine and dry roads for the most part. Had a warm meal in Bakersville. 10/10 day!

I always feel a little richer when I have new tires just waiting for me to use up the old ones.

Must be a disease.

Got the Nelson-Rigg Commuter tail bag today. I think it's going to be very handy. I never liked the trunk on the 06, just seemed too big from an aesthetic standpoint. It was great from a storage standpoint though. The tail bag fits perfect on the rear seat, and can expand to fit a full coverage helmet.ImageImage. Did another Suches to Murphy, NC ride today. Seems we always end up at the casino. Getting to be a regular Monday event for us. Saw this on my buddies rear tire leaving the casino. Needless to say I followed him home, and we took it slow and carefully. My new Bridgestones go on Wed.. Can't wait! No more lumps!Image

NFA.... been there done that. FYI, in a real pinch, run to Walmart (or similar) and pick up a tube of Shoe Goo. Slather it on the cords about 1/8" thick, feather it thin on both sides, and wait 2-ish hours for it to cure. BION, going real easy on the throttle, that will buy you about 200 miles, which should get you to a tire store from just about anywhere.

On one of my many bike trips to northwest Arkansas, that is one of three (3) very important things that I learned. The other two:

2. Never (and I mean NEVER) plan a bike trip to NW Arkansas without leaving on FRESH tires.
3. The FJR eats tires, man. I mean, it eats them like a salty snack before dinner.

YMMV (but I doubt it....)

I am pretty sure my wife is convinced I just like buying new tires for the FJR. You know kind of like some people just like buying new shoes. I don't think she really believes that it eats them up as fast as it does. I think she gets double the mileage out of her cruiser tires.

Dan, you just have an undisciplined right hand. Me, I'm very disciplined. I will sometimes get up to 4000 miles on a tire...an I ride like a turtle.

PPants, that Arkansas grit is a special kind of tire grater. Many a tar has been purchased in Searcy, AR. Right, Gramps?!?

Thanks Pants, I followed him home. He'll do this to get the bike to the shop for a tire. The bike is a Yamaha Stratoliner cruiser. He laughed and said the worn out tire was due to him trying to keep up with an FJR and a BMW K1600 on the way up to Suches, and across Wolfpen Gap!

Yes. I acquired some at a reasonable price from one of my GA hooligan buddies.

They will be for sale once the Russell seats come back.

Rene got new shoes today! Bridgestone T31 GTs. So happy to have round tires again instead of my lumpy RS3s. Feels like I bought a new bike! Had them aired at 42, 42. Since these are GTs, should I consider using lower pressures in either front or rear? I weigh about 245.Image

It's so nice when you have a new set of tires. The bike feels so nice.

I've never tried the T31s. I was so disgusted with the OEM batteax POSs that I couldn't bring myself to trying anything else that Bridgestone makes.

That said, I've tried many other tires and feel that 40 front, 42 back feels the best all around. If you are not really aggressive in the twisties, perhaps 42 front would be ok too.

And Dan wrote it well - new shoes is like a brand new bike. The first 2000 miles on new tires in the middle of some tasty curves is about as good as its gonna get.

42 psi is the forum consensus for front tires. Sorry not a fan of the new 'Stones. Used to use em but now I like PR4 and have tried the RS3 but they are much less supple than the PR4.

Just for sh!ts and giggles and because I have a tire changer I may try some Shinko's.

Today I am waiting for UPS to arrive, for a signature required parcel. I think it is my title on my new to me '17.

It snowed 4 inches today and continues to snow. Temps by Tuesday forecasted to be 11/0 F.

Snowblower works great.

fontaman, I have Shinko tires on right now largely because there was a new front on when I bought the bike so I put on a matching rear. FWIW I like them in the dry but absolutely not impressed in the rain. Tar snakes are almost scary when wet. YMMV.

I managed to sneak in a nice 75 miles after work today. over 50 degrees and the snow from earlier this week has melted.

In colder temps or leanier riding, try front tire pressures of 40 psi or 38 psi...per Petey.
