Gas cap assembly

What is the trick to removing the gas cap assembly?
As part of my tank rust removal I would like to remove the cap assembly. I took out the five screws that seem to hold in place, but was afraid to just start prying away at it.

Pry it up, should come out easily. Maybe gotta unlock it first.
